David: lovely or awful?

I really like David for DS2 right now, and so does DH to my surprise, particularly because it matches perfectly with Samuel (DS1) IMO; the whole story in the bible about him anointing David. So is it lovely and thus we go for it, or is it just my hormones playing up?

Lovely and classic.

Every Dave (they are all Daves) that I know are top blokes.

Disfordarkchocolate · 27/09/2020 21:18

Very, very lovely. Great name, one of mine has it as a middle name. Probably would have been a first name but it's the name of a family member.

iamtheoneandonlyyy · 27/09/2020 21:18

Lovely

WisestIsShe · 27/09/2020 21:18

I like it but mainly because I love my little brother Grin
A tiny voice at the back of my mind says "Baby David" from the Royle Family though.

VoyageInTheDark · 27/09/2020 21:20

David is ok but they'll end up being Dave which just seems like a middle aged man down the pub

shimmyshimmycocoapop · 27/09/2020 21:20

Love it. Know David's that range from 5 to 80 years old.

Watto1 · 27/09/2020 21:20

Lovely but I’m biased because DH is a David. DS gets called Baby David - his name is not David but he is the spitting image of his father!

40blah1 · 27/09/2020 21:21

Boring and old fashioned sounding on a baby. Sorry!

But if you love it, go for it.

Fast90 · 27/09/2020 21:21

It’ll undoubtedly be shortened to Dave which is just so middle aged man on a construction site!

CountFosco · 27/09/2020 21:22

Lovely. My Mum was a teacher who said she never taught a bad David.

DCIRozHuntley · 27/09/2020 21:22

I love it and wanted it for DS. DH vetoed for complicated reasons, but not because he didn't like the name itself.

Fast90 · 27/09/2020 21:22

Also, baby David from the Royle family springs to mind. Cringe

daisypond · 27/09/2020 21:23

It’s really nice. Goes very well alongside Samuel. The youngest David I know is 25 and it was unusual then.

micc · 27/09/2020 21:25

I like it, it's a mans name so it might feel a bit grown up. But saying that my DD loves this show on Netflix called Hilda and shes a little girl with a friend called David, and thinking about it I didnt think anything of it. It didnt sound too old for him in the program! Dave will probably be a nn though, which I like but as long as you do too :)

AnnaSW1 · 27/09/2020 21:26

Awful

Invisablewoman · 27/09/2020 21:28

Love it but I'm biased as it's DS1's name. It's classic. He's definitely a David not a Dave though Grin

daiseeedaiseee · 27/09/2020 21:30

lovely!

HowFastIsTooFast · 27/09/2020 21:32

I like it. I've dated a couple of David's and went to school with more and I can't think of a bad one.

AriettyHomily · 27/09/2020 21:34

Like David but hate Dave

LikeSilentRaindrops · 27/09/2020 21:35

I love it and have considered it for DC3, but I would need an absolute guarantee that he would never be Dave before I could use it! Am currently planning it as a middle name to Theodore, as it’s special for both me and DH for family reasons.

icode · 27/09/2020 21:36

David = lovely
Dave = horrible

DramaAlpaca · 27/09/2020 21:36

I love it. The youngest one I know is 21. Really lovely name that's due a revival.

Mollymalone123 · 27/09/2020 21:37

My dad is a David and he has never been called Dave-ever 😂 and he is calm, intelligent and kind

SquigglePigs · 27/09/2020 21:39

I like it. Suits all ages. It was on put boys shortlist. PPs are right though, will almost certainly be shorted to Dave.

Lindy2 · 27/09/2020 21:40

It's a good classic name.

You have the option of David or Davie when he's little but he could choose to use Dave when he's grown up. Dave for a baby or young child doesn't seem quite right.
