Mary or Maud?

Mord. Mode. Mawd. There is just no pronunciation of Maud that is anything other than hideous.

Ooh, I'm a bit stuck, OP. Maude/Maud always puts me in mind of Ned Flanders's wife, but Mary was the chosen slang for vulva when I was growing up! Of the two, I think I'd go for Maud.

Maud is a dreadful dreary, stodgy name. And as for Magdalen and Martha... (not envy).

Maid will get very mixed reactions! I am not a bit fan myself. I like Mary but prefer Marie/Maria.

I like Mary. Maud is awful! I find it a really grey, ugly name, not at all ‘cool’.

Yes Maud is a variant of Matilda (which I don’t like). I’d pronounce it Mawd, not Mode, as I’m not french!

I do quite love that Mary is a complete classic that everyone knows and can pronounce but yet is actually pretty rare. Oh but Maud is pretty cool too.

"Mary Maud"! Mary is sweet and not used much. Maud is kind of cool but risky---she might really hate it.

Maud is terrible, so ugly and dowdy. I remember hearing a toddler being called it in the park and feeling sorry for her.

Mary is v dull ...i use my middle name instead..so maud for me .

A relative was maud so naturally love the name but I think a child called it into today's age would be called mud
