Sorry but I don’t like it - cooking term for flour and fat blended together

ApolloandDaphne · 02/09/2020 16:53

I know several Ruaridh's who are known as Ru so I guess it is much the same. Although I would see Roux and think cheese sauce!

emptyplinth · 02/09/2020 16:54

Don't like it at all.
Roo as a nn for Rupert, Ruaridh etc is nice.

lionsmum · 02/09/2020 16:56

That was my worry. I love a roux, so versatile ... maybe that's why I'm keen on the name !

Dillybear · 02/09/2020 16:56

A roux is butter and flour mixed together over heat.... 🤨

Squiginawig · 02/09/2020 16:58

What about Rhu? Have heard of this spelling for a boy

BikeRunSki · 02/09/2020 17:00

It also means “russet” or “redhead”, is thus likely?

lionsmum · 02/09/2020 17:04

Neither. Our other contender is Reign , how does that fare in relation?

OP posts:
Aquamarine1029 · 02/09/2020 17:08

Roux or Reign aren't great. What about Rainn, Vaughn or Beau?

ApolloandDaphne · 02/09/2020 17:08

Reign is terrible. It is what a monarch does, it isn't a name. Raine is better.

finallychangedmyusername · 02/09/2020 17:13

Roo, short for Rupert, Reuben or Rufus, yes. Roux, no.

pallasathena · 02/09/2020 17:13

...will end up with Cookie as a nickname! Grin

Bringmewineandcake · 02/09/2020 17:15

My eldest has a boy called Roux in her class. I think it's pretty cool.

Firebird83 · 02/09/2020 17:16

Roux and Reign are both bad

netflixismysidehustle · 02/09/2020 17:17

Reign is a Kardashian's child.

Rain is better if you like how it sounds rather than the word itself.

netflixismysidehustle · 02/09/2020 17:17

Ru could be a nickname for Rupert or Rudy?

elfran · 02/09/2020 17:23

I mean, it makes me want to whip up a homemade mac and cheese, but that's probably not what you're going for.

I don't much like Reign either. Do like Beau, as a pp suggested. Or Ru as a nn for something else is really cute.

Fifthtimelucky · 02/09/2020 17:35

Reign and Roux are both very odd I think. Raine is a woman's name (Princess Diana's stepmother was a Raine).

I rather like Ru/Roo as a nickname. My daughter has a friend Ru which is short for Ruaraidh (sp) and it would also be work as a shortening for Rupert, Rufus, Reuben, Rudolph etc

Flymetothestars · 02/09/2020 17:39

Love Rudi/Rudy

Smokedham101 · 02/09/2020 18:04

Nope! He’d spend half his life correcting people on how to pronounce his name

lionsmum · 02/09/2020 18:09

Thanks all!Smile

Cbeebiesrehab · 02/09/2020 20:32

I’m in the minority but I quite like it...maybe because I’m not much of a chefGrin

My nephew is Rupert nn Ru.

Albern · 02/09/2020 20:39

I like Roux.

user1493494961 · 02/09/2020 22:02

What about David?

Carouselfish · 03/09/2020 00:34

Love it. 'Chocolat'!
Roux, Ru, Rew.
