Delilah or Ottilie?

We have a little Orla and we’re about 15 weeks off from our next little girl arriving. After lists and lists of names these are the top two that seem to be sticking. I like both but I’m also open to any new suggestions If you know any :)

Absolutely love both. Not sure I can pick but if I had to I'd pick Delilah though a year ago it would have been Ottilie

I mean I'd say neither but only because they both seem to be a total middle class cliche these days

shesaidshesleavingonasunday · 25/08/2020 11:53

Orla is a lovely name BTW

daisypond · 25/08/2020 11:54

I’m not keen on either, to be honest. And I don’t think either goes with Orla, if that bothers you. They are a very different style. Personally, I also wouldn’t have two DDs with the same initial letter, so that would rule out Ottilie.

MikeUniformMike · 25/08/2020 12:05

Not keen on either.
Delilah is awful, and Ottilie is a bit too twee and utterly ottery.
Neither have the same style as Orla. Niamh is nice.

Grandmi · 25/08/2020 12:08

Sorry I am not keen on your choice . I love the name Orla

OrangeSamphire · 25/08/2020 12:14

Neither. Too ‘Mother Of Daughters’. Sorry.

Names that complement Orla... hmm, what about Frances, Keziah, Erin or Roisin?

Leonora94 · 25/08/2020 12:15

Names are hard aren’t they! I quite like Pearl I also liked Iris and Maeve but that got vetto’d by DH

When I looked the names up I did see those adorable twins. I guess it wouldn’t be a problem though as I’m not having two. Thank you for your suggestions :)

Neither. Too ‘Mother Of Daughters’. Sorry.

That's the first thing I though of too. I wouldn't think that with just deliliah, but ottilie is unusual enough that that's the only time I've heard it before.

shesaidshesleavingonasunday · 25/08/2020 12:55

ottilie is unusual enough that that's the only time I've heard it before.

Come to any naice MC area of London, and you will find multiple Ottilies in every nursery.

pinkpinecone · 25/08/2020 13:33

Delilah

joystir59 · 25/08/2020 13:38

I don't like any of those names I'm afraid.

joystir59 · 25/08/2020 13:39

I like Iris. I think Pearl is a bit whorish.

Oneandabean · 25/08/2020 13:41

I hate Delilah, love ottilie but not a fan of matching initials on siblings.

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 25/08/2020 13:43

Sorry but I think both those names are dreadful. 😕

FluffyEggsontoast · 25/08/2020 13:44

Really love both Delilah and Ottilie
Haven't heard of Mother or Daughter

Both are lovely choices with great nickname potential. I think I'd pick Ottilie as it sounds so perfect with Orla as I like the repetition of the O.
If you like Delilah you might also like Delphine

Leonora94 · 25/08/2020 13:49

Thank you all so much for your feedback super helpful! I also like Mabel but not sure how is sounds with Orla

The names Ottilie and Delilah are firmly associated with that racist midwife Instagrammer to me! How about Tabitha or Cordelia? I think those two names have a similar vibe to the names you like and would go well with Mabel.

CeibaTree · 25/08/2020 14:01

Sorry go well with Orla I meant :)

Kezziethecat · 25/08/2020 14:07

I really like both actually. I love the sound of Delilah but can't escape the association with the Biblical character so possibly wouldn't choose myself. Otty is really cute. If you like the mother/father of daughters names their older two are Anya and Marnie I think, also gorgeous names.

Champy87 · 25/08/2020 14:09

I actually know two sisters called Orlaith and Ottilie. Personally, I would go with Delilah as I am not a fan of siblings with matching initials plus I think Ottilie is a bit of fad name that will age badly.

PP is correct - Clemmie Hooper who was disgraced on insta (can't remember the ins and outs) has a Delilah, Ottilie, Anya and Marnie. She was known on social media as Mother of daughters.

daisypond · 25/08/2020 14:10

Maeve and Iris are nice and go well with Orla. But not if your DH doesn’t like them.
Not keen on Mabel at all.
