Boys names - thoughts please

We're having a baby boy in a few weeks time - our first baby 🥰.

Naming him is proving a challenge and he's just known as Kevin for now. I feel it would be kind to not stick with Kevin, so please give me your thoughts on our potential names.

Freddie (short for Alfred)
Percy (family name, I love it and think it's due a come back!)
Beau
Rowan
Jesse

A mixed bunch - we have very different tastes so getting just a few has been a struggle!

Thanks

@roarfeckingroarr

Ok I think I'm leaning towards Alfred Percy surname, nn Freddie GrinGrin
I was going to suggest Alfred Percy Smile
BeMorePacific · 26/08/2020 23:06

Love your name choices! Only one I’m not keen on is Rowan.
I love Alfred, like Freddie but prefer NN Fred

Just in case you want more inspo, I also love Ted (Edward), Ralph, & Barney xx

roarfeckingroarr · 27/08/2020 00:03

Beau, Jesse or Rory.

Hate Percy, sorry.

Fromthebirdsnest · 27/08/2020 00:39

Freddie is my nephews name it’s lovely not keen on Percy in real life but do think it’s lovely I’m not keen on the others sorry , I have a Max I thought I’d suggest as it seems to fit in with your taste , congratulations on your first baby how exciting! X

Fromthebirdsnest · 27/08/2020 00:44

I’ve just seen someone say Freddie is ‘Chavvy ‘ and it’s use a lot by young mums but I actually see this used at our private school often and it’s my nephews name his mum was 35 when she had him and he goes to grammar school so am a bit 😏 at the chavvy association... x

janetmendoza · 27/08/2020 01:03

Alfred, then Rowan

AnnaSW1 · 27/08/2020 07:48

I think Freddie is one of those names liked/used by both ends of the spectrum so both chavvy and upper class associations. It's in the eye of the beholder!

The ONS has done some really interesting analysis of baby name choices by age of the mother. One of the major trends they’ve observed is that younger mothers (

I really don’t like all the ‘ie’ names Freddie, Archie, Frankie, Reggie, Ronnie etc they are everywhere and just regurgitated versions of very old fashioned names.
Plus I can’t get Fred West out of my mind when anyone mention Frederick/Fred/Freddie.

SnakesOrLadders · 27/08/2020 13:04

I like Kevin

AuntieStella · 27/08/2020 13:06

I'd stick with Kevin

Otherwise

Alfred/Freddie or Rowan

BGirlBouillabaisse · 27/08/2020 13:46

@emilybrontescorsett There are lots of serial killers with a variety of first names, it's strange that you fixate on Fred West Confused

spiderlight · 27/08/2020 13:51

Rowan or Rory.

Lebkuchenlove · 27/08/2020 14:08

I like Rowan best btw

Flynn2019 · 27/08/2020 14:32

I actually like Rowan and Beau the best out of all the names you mentioned 😊

Crazypie · 27/08/2020 14:57

Another vote for Rowan, I like Jesse too x

Flymetothestars · 27/08/2020 15:40

I quite like Kevin! Much better than Rory or Rowan (which I'd say is nicer on a girl but it's in a group of very popular similar names, a lot of RoWan RoMan RoHan about these days). I don't like Row but also not that keen on Kev but actually Kev could grow on me I think.

Alfred and Beau are lovely and I love LOVE Jesse! I also really like Percy too, not completely unheard of anymore whatsoever. Would be a lovely first or middle name. In fact why don't you use Kevin as the middle name if not the first name.

namenerd · 28/08/2020 01:10

I adore all of your names!!

~Freddie I do really like although it is a little common but nevertheless very, very cute.

~Percy is vintage and kind of quirky which I absolutely adore! I will definitely be adding this to my list ;) I think that Percy Beau is adorable as a combination also.

~Beau is also lovely as it means 'handsome' in french which I just think is such a lovely meaning to bestow on your child.

~ Rowan is nice but not my favourite if I'm being honest.

~ I especially love Jesse as that has always been one of my top-contenders. It is fairly unique without being unheard of as a boy's name.

~Rory is lovely and I think it works for all ages which is always a plus :)

roarfeckingroarr · 28/08/2020 13:19

Thank you @namenerd that's so kind. I still love Percy. We're going to wait until baby is born to decide.

I like Rowan because it means "little red one" and baby has a chance of red hair from his father.
