Lucy or Penny?

We are currently expecting a baby. Don't know the sex yet. We have a boys name set in stone but not a girls.
What are people's thoughts on Penny and Lucy?

We have also thrown around the idea of Francesca, known as Frankie after a family member but not too sure.
Thanks in advance

Do you think if we go with Penny it would be better to have Penelope on the birth certificate?

Lucy! I only like Penny as a nickname for Penelope.

PlantPotting · 20/08/2020 10:17

I just think put what you want on the birth certificate. Penny would be lovely. @supersonicginandtonic
Still I vote Lucy

babynamelover · 20/08/2020 10:41

My daughter's middle is Francesca. I like it but prefer as a middle name. I know both Penny and Lucy both are nice, for some reason Lucy seems more usuable right from baby to adult.

LouisaKelmen · 20/08/2020 10:43

I Love Lucy!🧡😏
Lovely name.

Anappleaday1 · 20/08/2020 13:55

Lucy - simple and classic - I don't think you can go wrong!
I love Penelope but less keen on Penny
I don't particularly like Francesca. If you use this then make sure you're happy with all the nn as she may decide to go by Fran/Chess/Franny when older.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 20/08/2020 14:14

Lucy - it’s a classic for a reason, I think it will age well.
I think there are a lot of baby Penny’s at the moment, and it’s a bit twee for me personally.

GroupSects · 20/08/2020 14:17

Don’t like Penny, don’t know why. Just screams ‘girl who cries at everything and has pigtails’ to me. Prefer Lucy out of those 2 but love Francesca the most.

supersonicginandtonic · 20/08/2020 15:00

I think DP is swinging more towards Lucy at the moment.

Lucy

Ellmau · 20/08/2020 18:56

Lucy.

SerenaSandwich · 20/08/2020 19:27

I like both but prefer Lucy

seriousandloyal · 20/08/2020 19:29

Prefer Lucy or have you thought about Lucille? I really like that name.

TenThousandSpoons · 20/08/2020 19:34

I prefer Lucy but they are two-a-Penny around here. Wink I love Penny (Big Bang fan) but not keen on Penelope.
Frankie is a very distant third.

supersonicginandtonic · 20/08/2020 19:54

@TenThousandSpoons we love Penny as we're big music fans. I feel the same way as you abut Penelope

I like Francesca, then Penny, then Lucy. But all pretty choices 😊

Tiredmum100 · 20/08/2020 20:13

I read a thread previously where everyone hated the name Lucy, iys nice to hear some people like it. My name is Lucy and I like it. I think it suits all ages. I've only known nice Lucy's!

yikesanotherbooboo · 20/08/2020 21:55

I like Penny or Penn for Penelope but it sounds unfinished without the longer form.
There is a reason that Lucy is popular and that is beacause it is a pretty name , with history that is easy to spell and pronounce.
I like them both a lot.

Tillygetsit · 20/08/2020 22:44

I like Francesca best. Really dislike Lucy because I've never met a nice one and I know far too many dogs called Penny.

occa · 20/08/2020 22:48

Lucinda nn Lucy. Not too keen on Penny.

Namechange8471 · 20/08/2020 22:49

I have never met a nice Lucy, so Penny.

MikeUniformMike · 20/08/2020 22:52

Penny can be a standalone name.
Lucinda seems a long name for the sake of it and Lucy is much nicer.

whiskeysourpuss · 20/08/2020 22:57

I prefer Lucy but I'm biased

@seriousandloyal my Lucy gets lengthened to Lucille Grin

daisypond · 20/08/2020 23:00

Lucy.
Penny only if short for Penelope.
Francesca is nice but not Frankie.

supersonicginandtonic · 20/08/2020 23:19

Definitely not Lucinda or Lucille, they don't fit with our other children's names. It's difficult finding a fit when you have other children.
