The name Willabelle

What do you think of the name Willabelle for a girl? DH looks quite keen, and while I think that it is pretty and has a bit of a woodland princess feel to it, I'm not sure if it is a good name for a child or if it is better being left for fairytale princesses.

Nope.

I like Mirabella or Mirabel, Isobel, or Arabella.
Clarabelle.
Willa on its own is lovely.

yikesanotherbooboo · 17/08/2020 17:08

Christabel
Anabel
Isobel
Willa
Willow
Willabelle sounds like a nickname to my ear

Aquamarine1029 · 17/08/2020 17:09

It's horrible.

Fennelandlovage · 17/08/2020 17:11

I am very open about names and it’s a no for me too. I like Willa though and some of the other combinations suggested here.

tillytoodles1 · 17/08/2020 17:11

No, it's an awful name.

SatanicDesk · 17/08/2020 17:12

@allsideways 😂 willy bell[end] was also my first thought!

Frenchic · 17/08/2020 17:16

Willa is beautiful, but you’ll be taking a chance with that, Willabella will be absolutely ripped into mercilessly at secondary.

lilyfire · 17/08/2020 17:21

Willa is beautiful. Like Willa Muir who translated Kafka and generally sounded cool.

Marcipex · 17/08/2020 17:21

No it’s awful.
Annabel is nice.
Isabelle
Even Ellabelle.

perfumeistooexpensive · 17/08/2020 17:22

She'll never forgive you for that name. I like OP's suggestion of Clarabelle. Lots of lovely short versions which gives her choice. Other children can be incredibly bullying about names and Willabelle would definitely cause that. Even Willa for short would be food for bullies.

Purpledaisychain · 17/08/2020 17:23

Thanks everyone. You've confirmed what I've been thinking since DH first suggested it. I do like it, but for a fairytale character, not an actual child. It looks like she is going to be an Isabelle.(Yay!)

Good choice OP.

celestebellman · 17/08/2020 17:25

Sounds silly, sorry.
It reminds me of a book one of my kids had about a wallaby called Willaby - that started ‘what is the matter with Willaby wallaby?’ - bit of a tongue twister.
Also the willy belly thing!

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 17/08/2020 17:27

Sorry OP-I rarely offer my opinion on these threads because at the end of the day it is your DC but I have to speak up for the poor baby-

please don't!!!!

For all of the reasons listed by PP's

Subbu12 · 17/08/2020 17:28

I think Willabille it's a different idea to take name. If taken this one at that time you face some struggles like it's not good one like that. But after some days you feel good about I selected different one and heartfully liked by me.

Boireannachlaidir · 17/08/2020 17:29

Isabel yes but willabelle just no, god no!

Sounds like tinkerbelle's boring cousin!

CasuallyMasculine · 17/08/2020 17:30

Isabelle is one of my favourite names. As long as she doesn’t become an Izzy.

Purpledaisychain · 17/08/2020 17:32

Willabelle was fully DH's idea. He also liked Katniss until I pointed out that it rhymed with cat piss.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 17/08/2020 17:33

Far too OTT

2bazookas · 17/08/2020 17:42

I had a neighbour called Archibelle, poor thing.

How about Christabel, lovely name with a history.

LirBan · 17/08/2020 17:43

Lol at him suggesting Catniss. Great name for the character but in real life. Seriously.

ivfdreaming · 17/08/2020 17:48

Just awful

HTH

Janaih · 17/08/2020 17:49

Lovely if shes a caravan.

Ariela · 17/08/2020 17:54

@Janaih

Lovely if shes a caravan.
Do you also know Stevie with the German motorhome called Willabelle?
CaptainMyCaptain · 17/08/2020 17:57

I saw the thread title and thought it sounds a bit Disney so I'm glad you mentioned fairy princesses. Just no!
