My mum said she came across it on an American tv show for a little girl, I had never heard it before, but had assumed it was for a boy, hence the thread, as was interested see if anyone had heard of it.

If I heard it, I'd assume it was "Kayla" (female), ditto pronounced kai-luh, I'd perhaps anticipate a Cadhla (female). Seeing it written down, I'd expect a boy.

(yes Kayla and Sailor rhyme in my accent before we descend into arguments about rhoticity again)

Yeah it looks like it would rhyme with Taylor/Sailor.

Also reminds me of kaolin, which is in an old-fashioned medicine I remember from my days as a Saturday girl in Boots.
