I love all of the below names so would probably use in the future as a first name but also wouldn't mind using for middle names, they are preferred suggestions, Irish/French is my theming and Marie is a family name. Bernadette as first because I have a personal connection to the name and my favourite ever series is TBBT, my name is two syllabals partners three, not sure whose I would use yet.
Della
Emilie
Estella
Rosalie
Enya
Esmerelda (Esme)

Well the only two Bernadettes I know are under 60 (both have Irish Parents) I like Rosalie best as a middle name.

LynetteScavo · 12/08/2020 14:38

Actually I know another two...both called Berni. They're both Irish - one is over 60 (I think).

Bobbybobbins · 12/08/2020 14:43

I guess you could use Bernie or Etta at a push as a nickname. I like it!

northernbelle84 · 12/08/2020 14:45

I have an amazing aunt Bernadette nn Bee. Love it!

I would be tempted to keep a middle name to two syllables or fewer. Marie is my favourite from your list.

Caoimhe is also lovely (sorry if I have misspelled I'll blame the app) and could work as a middle name? She'd have to spell all of her names out all the time mind.

rayoflightboy · 12/08/2020 14:48

Bernadette Mary Brigid goes well together

dontcallmelen · 12/08/2020 14:52

My Sil is Bernadette Margaret goes by the nickname Detta, Marie is pretty as well

lifesnotaspectatorsport · 12/08/2020 15:02

I'm not going to criticise your first name choice since my sons have unusual, maybe Marmite, names - but I would suggest going for a simple, short middle name in case your child hates Bernadette. So Marie could work, or how about Grace or Olivia?

rayoflightboy · 12/08/2020 15:19

Is there a usual nn for Bernadette other than Bernie?

Biddy

@babydisney i live in Ireland and its a terribly dated name. Please pick Caoimhe,so much prettier.

Mommabear20 · 12/08/2020 15:22

Marie!

trebletheclef · 12/08/2020 15:27

I think Bernadette is a lovely name. As is Marie. I know two Marie's in their 40s, both lovely people.

How about Bernadette Rosita?

katy1213 · 12/08/2020 15:31

I should think every Bernadette in Ireland is Bernadette Mary. I know plenty, over 70! Rosary bashers to a woman!

TheWoollybacksWife · 12/08/2020 15:38

I know two Bernadette's both under 60. One is Bernadette Mary and the other is Theresa Bernadette and is known by her second name. I like the name a lot - it's my confirmation name.

backseatcookers · 12/08/2020 15:43

How about Aisling as a middle name @babydisney?

Keyperfect · 12/08/2020 15:45

Bernadette is a beautiful name. I know four Bernadettes, all Irish and all over 60, and all lovely kind warm women. It's due a revival.

Bernadette Anne, Bernadette Mary, Bernadette Claire, Bernadette Louise?

ShowOfHands · 12/08/2020 15:48

TBBT Bernadette's middle name is Maryann. I like that actually along with Miriam and Mirabel.

I know two Bernadettes. One 32, one 39, both very stylish. Known as Bernie and Bee respectively but also both use their full name happily.

thirtysomethingangel · 12/08/2020 16:04

I'mIrish, my name is Marie. I'm 36. I have 2 friends the same age as me called Bernadette.
I think it's a lovely name. Bernadette Marie is lovely but I think Marie goes well behind a lot of names.
The only other name from your list that I think goes well is Bernadette Emilie.

WhereTheCrawdadsSing · 12/08/2020 16:18

I think Bernadette Rosalie has a lovely ring to it.

Nothing wrong with Bernadette. She could shorten to Etta or Netty maybe? I know an adult Netty. Think she is Anette.

I alao know a baby Brigid, which is a similar vintage feel to Bernadette. I think it's lovely.

My DS has a traditional, Irish name too. I think it's quite marmite, but only outside of Ireland 🤷‍♀️.

missyB1 · 12/08/2020 16:23

Bernadette Maeve
Bernadette Mary

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 12/08/2020 16:24

Oi stop slagging off my name Grin

In the interest of TBBT, Marianne?

ShowOfHands · 12/08/2020 17:55

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz

Shouldn't that be RostEnkowski? I call imposter!

saltycat · 12/08/2020 18:03

Why is there so much angst about middle names? Does anyone ever use them?

Anyway for the record, if you are defo going for Bernadette, Bernie, Etta, Detta and all other abbreviations and nns then as a PP said also, middle name Grace is very nice.

Sorry OP but I like Caoimhe and Ailbhe as first names yikes, get off the thread now!

twittawoo3 · 12/08/2020 18:09

Bernadette Rose 🌹

PoodleMoth · 12/08/2020 18:49

I really like Bernadette Esmerelda (not so keen on Esme)

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 12/08/2020 19:05

Bernadette Marie. Lovely. (And also my two middle names so I may be slightly biased. Wink).

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 12/08/2020 19:10

I also like Bernadette Frances (as PP) and Bernadette Faye or Bernadette Faith.
