Husband-proof names please?!

Husband is an awkward so and so...

He thinks the likes of James, Edward (I utterly love this name), George, William, Elliot and Alexander are all too vanilla, boring and overused names.

I'm trying to hunt for something we can agree on. He's also shot down Edwin and Edmund - I tried all variations of my fave name!

He doesn't like 'out there'/hipster/the-in-thing style names like your Rivers, Bodhis, Romans etc. The only name he loves is Rupert and I don't like it unfortunately. Names he "doesn't mind but wouldn't use" are Sebastian, Wilfred, Felix.

I can't get a feel of what he likes. Any suggestions that I can list/read to him to see if he likes them?

Quite frankly I'd tell him if he doesn't make an effort and really contribute then he doesn't get a say. He's being bloody lazy on the emotional labour front.

Great suggestions, thanks all. Of them all, DH likes Francis and Alistair. I like Francis so that may be a middle ground for us both? What do you think?

His other suggestion.......... Douglas - I need help here 😂😂😂

Just remember that your son will go through life with the name so nothing too weird.

CaffiSaliMali · 27/07/2020 09:39

I prefer Alistair to Francis but both are nice names.

Would he maybe agree to Francis Edward?

howfarwevecome · 27/07/2020 12:17

I'm sorry, but Francis is an awful name for a boy.

You need to switch the onus for solving this problem to him. So instead of you making suggestions and him coming up with associations/problems.
Tell him the child will be called Edward unless he comes up with a name you like more than that before the birth has to be registered.
Good luck and congratulations Flowers

Whatthebloodyell · 27/07/2020 12:43

He seems to like a Scottishish name?

What about Angus, Hamish, Finlay?

Bl0ndi3 · 27/07/2020 12:56

It's his baby too, so it's nice that you're going to so much effort to find a name you both love instead of just trying to force what you want onto him. My OH is awkward with boys names too but we have finally found a name we both love....

I'll say it again, Download the app kinder it's basically like tinder for baby names you both choose names you like and it shows you any that you match on. That might be easier for you/him to go through all the name suggestions and see which he likes and then you can look at the names you match on and both like.

What suggestions had he made so far OP? Or is your job to do all the thinking and research, while his job is to sit their like the Lord high grand judge of everything and pronounce upon your efforts? Tell him to get of his arse and do some mental labour of his own.

@ByGrabtharsHammerWhatASavings just Rupert, Francis. he is agreeable to, and Doug. That is it. Lol, I definitely will! HRH will hoped make some more suggestions.

We did like Gabriel too but a close friend of my sisters has used it and it feels too close to home for us to use now.

Eeek really don't like Francis.

How about Rufus? Quite similar to Rupert, but a lot more outdoorsy and boyish to me. Rory is good too.

FizzyGreenWater · 28/07/2020 00:17

Oh, and it's NOT a case of you running round trying to get a name HE will graciously agree to...

Is his surname being used? Then you get dibs on first name. That's the first rule.

Second rule: if you won't play properly the ball gets taken away. Either he comes up with LIST of at least ten names he likes, or you just tell him you'll pick first name, he gets second.
