Husband-proof names please?!

Husband is an awkward so and so...

He thinks the likes of James, Edward (I utterly love this name), George, William, Elliot and Alexander are all too vanilla, boring and overused names.

I'm trying to hunt for something we can agree on. He's also shot down Edwin and Edmund - I tried all variations of my fave name!

He doesn't like 'out there'/hipster/the-in-thing style names like your Rivers, Bodhis, Romans etc. The only name he loves is Rupert and I don't like it unfortunately. Names he "doesn't mind but wouldn't use" are Sebastian, Wilfred, Felix.

I can't get a feel of what he likes. Any suggestions that I can list/read to him to see if he likes them?

Alexander shortened to Xander?

Whatsyourflava · 25/07/2020 17:48

I think you can find middle ground

Tristan
Barnaby
Curtis
Miles/Milo
Peter (very rare these days)
Laurence nn Laurie
Christopher nn Kit
Otis
Otto
Chester
Cole
Cooper
Marley
Nathan/Nathaniel nn Nate

If in doubt get the bible out
Caleb
Gabriel
Raphael
Jonah
Endless. He probably wants a classic but unusual name.

Gabriel is far from unusual. They’re everywhere

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 25/07/2020 17:50

Walter. Winston. Wilbur. Percy. Raymond

NataliaOsipova · 25/07/2020 17:50

Agree with @123Dancewithme - Edgar is brilliant!

To be honest, he needs to give you more to go on. I second the pp who suggested you each write out 10 names and swap lists. It's not fair to make one suggestion and then veto everything else!

Rafferty

Raspberryetonmess · 25/07/2020 17:59

Yessss @KatnissK story of my life!! He has a stupid associate for everything and I suggest a name and he just responds with that 😂 Like I say Benedict and he shouted Cumberbatch, it's like a game of guess who 🤣

Have any of our suggestions made the list @Raspberryetonmess

I think Caleb above was a good suggestion how about Alistair? Vincent nn Vinnie?

missmouse101 · 25/07/2020 18:17

Ashley, Adam, Toby?

CaffiSaliMali · 25/07/2020 18:30

I really like Edmund, but DH vetoed due to Narnia books.

I also like Patrick and Alistair. Would either of those appeal? Both classic names but not overly common these days.

Nicholas? Christopher? Dominic?

Have you tried each of you going through the top 1000 boys names and marking ones you would be prepared to consider and then seeing if you have any in common?

He can't just suggest one name and veto all yours, he needs to come up with a decent number to suggest to you as well.

Bl0ndi3 · 25/07/2020 19:10

Both download the "kinder" app :)

Painsnail · 25/07/2020 19:25

Lesser known saints name maybe?

Alban
Ivo
Blaise
Raphael

My DH was similar to yours and it was VERY frustrating. Sympathies!

Gibbus · 25/07/2020 20:16

I have a DS called Rupert, other names I liked were:
Benedict
Cornelius
Casper
Dexter (although the series put a dampener on that)
Alexander

Quizeerascal · 25/07/2020 20:48

If he's into connotations shout 'bear' at him next time he says Rupert. Lots of other names out there that might work

Oscar
Wilbur
Otto
Reuben
Laurence
Peter
Francis
Jasper
Casper
Theodore (shortened to Ted perhaps so similar to Edward)

If all else fails point out who's going to carry this baby and push him outGrin

Backhometothenorth · 25/07/2020 21:58

Patrick
Spencer
Alistair
Gregory
Ralph
Michael

Thisisanoutrage · 25/07/2020 22:25

Magnus

MimiSunshine · 25/07/2020 22:49

One thing g that worked well for us was to have a list each.
You couldn’t cross a name out but instead you ranked order them.
It made you think more about the names rather than an instant dismissal.
The top few choices were then kept for future lists etc
Get him to do that with your list and he needs to come up with some other than Rupert

cultkid · 25/07/2020 22:51

Rueben
Chester
Luke
Alfredo
