We like the name Finlay for a boy, which could be shortened to Finn. Would you spell it Finlay or Finley?

Finley. But I prefer just Finn and know a couple who are just that.

I pronounce them completely differently and as a teacher have encountered the same.
Finlay - Fin Lay
Finley - Fin Lee

Findlay.

Finlay. Lovely name. Finley seems more feminine to me.

Finlay

DS is a 'lay'

SavageBeauty73 · 27/07/2020 07:31

My Finley hasn't ever had to correct his name.

SneakyBlinder · 27/07/2020 07:38

I have a Finley....nobody has ever spelt it ‘Finlay’ in the last 10 years.

He’s mainly just Fin tho....unless he’s in trouble! Wink

They're all pronounced the same , it's a silent d in Findlay (pron..Finnly).

Pawsin · 27/07/2020 19:32

I know several Finley's (work in EY) and one Findlay. The Findlay I know pronounces it the same, but they do often get the 'lay' pronounciation from people at first. So I suppose it would depend on whether that would annoy you or not (or whether you want to say it like that 🤷🏻‍♀️)
