Currently stuck on a middle name for Clementine...what do you think of the following;

Clementine Olivia
Clementine Hope
Clementine Emilia
Clementine Rose
Clementine Ada

Keen to hear thoughts! x

I'm really torn, I think Clementine Olivia sounds beautiful, or Clementine Emilia for something a bit different but at the same time I understand what people are saying about a short name...

It really doesn’t matter. If you like Olivia, go for that. It’s how the first name and surname flow together that really matter.

bluemoon2468 · 23/07/2020 22:08

Some slightly more unusual one syllable middle names:

Clementine Belle
Clementine Eve
Clementine Lark
Clementine Pearl
Clementine Fleur

@bluemoon2468 I do like Clementine Eve but it makes me think of Christmas Eve for some reason! 🤣

Go for the names you like the most - they will all sound fine once it’s your actual baby’s name and you’re not sounding them out every time you say them. Personally, I’d go for Olivia or Emilia and not one of the shorter names.

Stargazer87 · 25/07/2020 22:53

I think it's such a funny one, middle names are so hard to get right yet nobody ever really gives them a second thought once the baby is named.

Any advice on making a decision still appreciated! 🤣

Clementine Emilia

lemyn · 27/07/2020 00:01

I like Emilia, Ada or Grace best! Clementine is beautiful. Smile

lemyn · 27/07/2020 00:03

I also think Clementine Belle or Clementine Ivy would be nice.

Stargazer87 · 27/07/2020 10:06

Clementine Grace seems to be most popular! I'm still searching for that perfect middle name that just clicks though...🧐

I really like Clementine Emilia - I like the repetition of the letters, it looks very elegant.

My middle name is Rose and I hated it at school because at least 6 other girls in my class shared it - it was the most popular “filler” middle name at the time!

bluemoon2468 · 27/07/2020 20:06

I agree on not just going for a filler middle name. Choose a name that means something to you, a family name or a name that you love but wouldn't use as a first name for some reason (e.g. too popular or too out there). I always think a middle name is such a lovely opportunity to be creative or meaningful, and it seems a bit of a shame when people just go with the likes of Rose/Grace/May etc. (unless of course those names have particular significance to you, but if they're just a filler what's the point)?

Stargazer87 · 27/07/2020 20:59

I think that's why we're struggling as we don't really have any meaningful names we want to use. So just looking for a beautiful sounding name that sounds great with Clementine!

What's your second favourite girl's name after Clementine? Was there a name on your list that you decided not to use for some reason but it would work as a middle name?

Alternatively is there a meaningful word you could attribute your relationship or a nickname you've had for the baby? We're using the middle name Arthur because I've been calling the baby 'little bear' throughout my pregnancy, and 'arth' means bear in Welsh. What about the baby's birthstone or the birthstone of the month that you and your partner met or got married?

This article is quite helpful 😊

Danniiaddy · 27/07/2020 23:03

I like Clementine Faye

Stargazer87 · 28/07/2020 05:31

My second favourite girls name is Millie, not sure if Clementine Millie works though? Or Evie?

OP posts:
Stargazer87 · 28/07/2020 09:51

Any thoughts on Clementine Millie? Can't work out if it works or not? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Also we're going to be using Clemmie day to day. I don't think Clemmie Millie works but then how often do you use a middle name said with a nickname? So confused! 😂

OP posts:
bluemoon2468 · 28/07/2020 13:46

I think Clementine Millie works fine... you're right, you'll never say Clemmie Millie. Middle names are only ever used in the context of saying someone's full name. I think Clementine Evie works just fine too, but how about Clementine Eve? You could even use the nickname Evie just for round the house (my mum sometimes calls me my middle name and it's a really sweet thing just between us). I know you said it reminds you of Christmas Eve, but it didn't make me think of that at all, and also is that necessarily a bad thing? Who doesn't love Christmas? 😆

Whatsyourflava · 28/07/2020 15:23

I agree @bluemoon2468 just stop thinking about the flow of the names (you'll rarely say them all at once) and just pick a name you like as the middle name. Unless it gives offensive initials I'd just go with the name you like best as she may choose it as her main name (I doubt it as Clemmie is so lovely but you never know - I have 3 relatives that go by their middle name)

How about Clementine Camilla (Camilla would have nn Millie) so if she ever chooses her middle name as first name it'd be Millie. Same applies for Emilia too!

Clementine Olivia also lovely

Clementine is a great choice by the way

Stargazer87 · 28/07/2020 16:36

Thanks, I know I'm over thinking it, it's just annoying not being able to find a name that feels like a good match! 🙈
