Thoughts on Ted?

Will put Edward on the birth certificate as a full version. But what do people think of Ted? I don’t hear about much nowadays, but it seems perfectly fine to me. Thanks Smile

It seems very 'old man' -ish to me, and therefore inappropriate. Maybe because my late grandfather was known as Ted. And Teddy, although it's very popular now, seems babyish (probably because of teddy bears).

Edward as name is fine though, but I prefer Eddie to be the shortening.

I loved the name Ted/Teddy around 15 years ago. Then it became very popular in my area and every other baby boy was called Ted/Teddy.

Now every other fluffy dog is called Ted/Teddy. I loved it 15 years ago. It isn’t a name I’d consider for a baby now

I don't like Theodore at all, and Theo has been done.
Teddy was nice when it was the rather unusual nn of a footballer but when they are everywhere it seems dull and babyish.

I have a DS Edward, nn Ted/Teddy. We named him before the current Teddy trend took off in UK, but fortunately that hasn't happened where we are (yet). He was definitely a Teddy in his baby/toddler years, but is now transitioning into more of a Ted. Although we call him all sorts - Tedster, Teddington and of course Bear. It's very versatile!

I still love it and, more importantly, so does he. And funnily enough, I think it makes other children warm to him because they have positive connotations with his name - they associate 'Teddy' with comfort and cuddles.

That's nice. A friend has a Ned short for Edward and I think it's awful.
