So far I like ~ Alistair, Angus, Barnaby, Benedict, Edward, Felix, Fabian, Gabriel, Hector, Kaspar, Maxwell, Peter, Rupert, Rufus, Stanley

However..... I can't get my husband on board with any despite my best efforts to really sell them all to him. Could you maybe help with suggestions? DH doesn't have a style it's just he hears them and shoots them down, which doesn't help, I know. More like the names above please that I can win DH over with?

You have to get him to make suggestions too, OP. Go through the same list/app/book and each mark your favourites, and the ones you'd be willing to consider. Then compare lists and start from there. But if you are coming up with all the ideas he can keep shouting them all down and you won't get anywhere.

sweetnosugar · 17/06/2020 22:41

Both of you make a list then compare.
Love the name Edward as you suggested, I also like,

Has he suggested why he doesn’t like them - to modern? Classic? Old fashioned?

Maybe see if you can establish his style. Perhaps ask him, if the baby was born this minute, and he had to name him, what he choose?

You have a great list of names, timeless (although I would spell Kasper as Casper).

My DH was the same. Didn't like anything I suggested. No style. Will know when I hear it. Kept suggesting names and 4 days before our DS arrived he text me in the middle of the night with 5 babes he liked. They were ALL names I had suggested.

My advice is keep going with ones you like and one will stick!

Whatsyourflava · 18/06/2020 13:51

You have an amazing list!! I absolutely LOVE

Angus, Barnaby, Benedict, Edward, Felix, Gabriel, Kaspar, Maxwell, Peter, Rupert and Stanley

You might find your DH gets used to these names the more he hears them. My DH dismissed every name at first but with second child I realised that he just needed more time to get his head around these names. Does your DH want a super traditional name? My DH only really wanted a name like James (a name I love by the way) but once he heard the top 100 list he realised there's much more variety of names these days

I really like the name Levison from watching walking with Elephants pronounced Lev-er-son. It's quite usual though.

I really like Quentin and Fabian!

Tiredteds · 22/06/2020 18:38

Wow thanks so much for the responses! Some amazing suggestions there.

For the PP who asked, DH tends to like something like Ethan which is not my taste but would also like something more out there which are opposites in style, so I find it so hard to understand what he likes. I think it could be because I suggested them lol! I'm going to try some of your suggestions.

I really like a strong name that sounds kind and charming, and slightly different to the very popular names topping the charts.

From the suggestions, a few that are standing out to me are Fabian, Francis, Fergus, Elliot, Austin/Austen and James. I know James is very simple but I do think it's a lovely name.
