Stellan? Masculine?

We're currently really liking the name Stellan. While it has "Stella" within the name, it still 'reads' masculine to me.

But I wasn't sure if it was just me!
Would you see this as a male name or "Stella with an n"?

If it is useful as context, I'm Scandi and DH is British.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Cooper88 · 17/06/2020 08:34

That appears masculine to me. Same as names like kellan etc.

FatalSecrets · 17/06/2020 08:35

It’s lovely and obviously masculine.

Makes me think of Stellan Skarsgaard.

BaronessBomburst · 17/06/2020 08:37

I'm not familiar with the name but it sounds like a boys name to me.

elfran · 17/06/2020 08:39

No, I'd think of Stellan Skarsgård. Feels very masculine to me!

Besides, many girl/boy names just have one letter difference; think Frances/Francis, Andrea/Andreas, Olive/Oliver, etc.

Stellan is a great name.

Twelve8Ts · 17/06/2020 08:41

Love this name! Also think of Skarsgard.

Orphlids · 17/06/2020 08:43

Extremely masculine, and rather fantastic! Great choice.

Mrsjayy · 17/06/2020 08:44

It's a male name the name meaning says it's a swedish masculine name, call her stella.

Gemma2019 · 17/06/2020 08:45

It's a very masculine name to me. I really like it.

Mrsjayy · 17/06/2020 08:46

Are you having a girl ?

december2020 · 17/06/2020 09:04

@Mrsjayy we don't know. But this would be our boy name choice 🙂

Aww thank you everyone! It's really helping me have confidence in the boys name we like. I had a small panic that it could end up with some ridicule in schools but it feels like it is a solid boys name.

Very good point @elfran ! Definitely solidifies that Stellan is right for us!

Mrsfrumble · 17/06/2020 09:12

Stellan is fab. Makes me think of a scandi fisherman or lumberjack with a big beard, so very masculine Grin

december2020 · 17/06/2020 09:17

@Mrsjayy reading back my original post I clearly didn't have enough coffee either as it didn't state anywhere it would be our boys name pick 😂

@Mrsfrumble I love it!!!

I know a Stellan and the Stella connection never occurred to me. It’s definitely a masculine name.

passthemustard · 17/06/2020 17:45

Yeah fab name, might use it myself 😂 (for my baby - not for me - that would be strange)

captainraymondholt · 17/06/2020 19:12

I would totally see this as a male name.
