Edward, Francis or Nicholas?

For upcoming DS. We will most likely shorten to Ted, Frank and Nick respectively. Middle name will be Peter. Which do people on here prefer? Thanks

@formerbabe have to disagree on Francis being “wet”, I see it as alpha male but with a pleasant gentleness if that makes sense. Wet for me would be more like Timothy or Sebastian.

Don’t like Nico or Fran much as nicknames, just Nick or Frank.

I have a baby Nick... everyone’s response has been very positive. Even the people who are confused.

And if I have a daughter, Frances is top of my list!

What similar tastes we have OP.

Actually perhaps the people who don’t like are just quiet? That probably makes more sense. But I’ve had a lot of positive response regardless.

Edward/Ted

We have a Francis nn Frankie so I'm obviously biased but I love the name. We use both versions (he's 3) and they both suit him. I don't like Frank, seems more American to me. There seems to be a lot of Freddies around here but we've only met one other Frankie.
I really like Edward as well but it's a mouthful with our surname.

Not keen on Francis but love Edward/Ted and really like Nicholas/Nick.

Just because you said that you like the fact that they are not used as much now, Edward is currently at 24 in the boys names charts. Not sure if that's high enough to bother you - but worth knowing. Teddy is also popular, as is Theodore (though would expect that most Theodores use Theo as a nickname) so Ted probably would blend right in a classroom.

@toastofthetown no that’s fine, thanks for sharing! Most of the Edwards I know, whether they go by Ed, Ted or Eddie are in their late 20s, more so 30s and 40s. I have a worked as a nursery teacher for four years since my graduation - and have never come across an Edward before, ever. This may be what skewed my perception of the popularity of the name nowadays, but I will bear what you said in mind

So interesting how we see names differently. I imagine a Francis as a bit of a drip, definitely not alpha male

I love Nick and Edward (prefer Ned for short). I know a couple of younger Edwards but no younger Nicks.

I like Nick but Nicholas always make me think of Knickerless.

Edward is nice but Ted is very popular around here at the moment.

If popularity is an issue then you should know that there are a lot of Teds and Teddies around at the moment, both Edwards and Theodores.

Love both Francis and Nicholas. Nicky is sweet for a little boy.

@formerbabe I think it’s related to the two guys named Francis I know from real life - they both carry themselves in a very masculine, assertive way but still remain polite and courteous.

@MojoJojo71 holy s*, I see what you mean about Nicholas/Knickerless 😂. And Franklin is quite nice, I don’t know how I hadn’t thought of that before if I was thinking of Frank
