Is Dax too American?

I'm really keen on names that have an X or the nickname could possibly have the letter X.

I know Daxton exists but not sure I like it. Doesn't feel like a real name for some reason. I feel Dax is just easy, simple and very straightforward but I'm wondering if it might be too American or forever be linked to Dax Shepard

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Miriel · 04/06/2020 19:38

It's a great middle name for Curzon or Jadzia!

ethelredonagoodday · 04/06/2020 19:39

My nephew is a Dax. Initially we thought it was a bit out there. But we are used to it now! 😁🤣

MikeUniformMike · 04/06/2020 19:40

Is your surname Hunt?

elp30 · 04/06/2020 19:44

I'm with @VirginWestCoast

I don't think you can pin this on Americans.
I've never heard of it and I've heard some "interesting" names.

OP--Your child, your choice!

LittleRa · 04/06/2020 19:47

According to Dax Shepard’s Wikipedia page:

“According to Shepard, his mother named him for the rich playboy Dax (Diogenes Alejandro Xenos), in Harold Robbins' novel The Adventurers.”

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 04/06/2020 19:49

Dax is the name of the German stock market index. It’s like calling your child FTSE or Dow.

Youngatheart00 · 04/06/2020 19:50

Sounds like a household cleaner.

HappyGoLuckyHippo · 04/06/2020 19:56

@Somethingfishy I knew there was something stocky about that name, thank you! I know a Rex, which is ok.

HappyGoLuckyHippo · 04/06/2020 19:57

@Somethingnasty rather!

Blursula · 04/06/2020 19:58

I much prefer Max

Wheresthebiffer2 · 04/06/2020 19:59

Star Trek character.

JessicaPeach · 04/06/2020 20:00

Dax reminds me of the baby that was born prematurely in nyc and the dad did a big go fund me campaign despite getting paid out by insurance. He was a pretty dubious character iirc!

MilaRos · 04/06/2020 20:01

How about Jax?

LittleRa · 04/06/2020 20:04

If you like the x ending

Max, Rex, Felix, Knox, Jax, Maddox, Lennox, Lex, Fox, Alex, Dex

Dreamcatcher34 · 04/06/2020 20:04

I like Maxton or Jax.

doritotos · 04/06/2020 20:06

Thanks for the comments.

Max - One of my best friends is called this and I don't think I could have two Maxs my life
Jaxon/Jackson - I'm not too keen on it
Dexter - I can't get past Dexter the cartoon or the serial killer from the show (great show though!)
Rex - I actually really like this
Xander - Reminds me of the word 'salamander' every single time I'm not sure why
Xavier - I would love it if only I could get away with the Spanish pronunciation instead of the usual English ones

I know I have something to say about every single name but I do appreciate the inputs.

Rex is definitely an option now though, so that was a great suggestion Smile

I love Dax Shepherd 😍

But not the name. It’s terrible. Dexter, Dex for short?

Ughmaybenot · 04/06/2020 20:07

Oh I’m so sorry, there’s two pages, didn’t realise! Ignore my dexter suggestion. Rex is cool.

FawnDrench · 04/06/2020 20:23

Axel
Huxley
Phoenix
Maximus
Hendrix
Maxwell

Creamcar · 04/06/2020 20:38

Dax awful, sorry.
Rex lovely but a bit doggy!
Felix, Max, Axel all v cool IMO

MondeoFan · 04/06/2020 21:12

I know a toddler girl named Dax she's around 3. She's cute with curly hair and messy clothes, it really suited her I thought. Unsure if that was just her name or if it was short for something

resm · 04/06/2020 21:43

Declan with the nickname Dex (though Decky is a more common nn where I’m from).

SheWranglesRugRats · 04/06/2020 21:53

It’s the name of a small town in southern France.

spiderlight · 05/06/2020 16:53

I knew a Dax when I was a kid but haven't come across it since. I like it.

I know a little boy called Paxton, which is pretty cool.

mrsspooky · 05/06/2020 17:01

Dax is a gorgeous name :)
