Hello all, me and DH are due to have a son on 12th June (our first child) and in terms of names, we both really like the names Joseph/Joe and Samuel/Sam (Joseph slightly more) but we were wondering whether Joseph Samuel or Samuel Joseph flows/sounds better in your opinions? The surname will be Jackson btw, and any other good name suggestions you have feel free to state I am open to new alternatives too! Cheers Smile

I have a Samuel so I'm biased, I think it's a great name so I'm going with Samuel Joseph. When I hear the name Joe Jackson I automatically think of my dad's all time favourite singer, not michael

@finallychangedmyusername thanks - some of those suggestions are great - I like Nicholas most out of ones you’ve said. Also like Matthew as I think I said before but DH didn't because of Matts he has know

Some other suggestions we came up with today that we both like are Alex/Alexander and George

They were both my choices but settled on Joseph when he was born as it just suited him Smile. I also know a Samuel Jackson!

Aria20 · 25/05/2020 18:45

I like Nicholas but not a massive fan of Alexander/Alex or George. I think Samuel is still the nicest with Joseph as middle name

averythinline · 25/05/2020 20:33

Joseph Samuel sounds better to me and I like Joseph Jackson

averythinline · 25/05/2020 20:37

Joseph Samuel sounds better to me and I like Joseph Jackson ... and Jo could be JJ

Level75 · 25/05/2020 20:38

I know both! The key really is whether you prefer Sam or Joe as a name. At the end of the day the middle name doesn't really matter.

Christine1992 · 26/05/2020 14:53

@averythinline thanks for sharing - but JJ would be something I would like to try and avoid tbh

Sam could be SJ! Jackson is a cool surname , I suppose any name might become "XJ" because of the J surname
Have you made a decision
I love both

Christine1992 · 27/05/2020 08:11

@Whatsyourflava we are leaning more towards Samuel Joseph now, but still not entirely decided

Joseph first otherwise you've got a Sammy-Jo on your hands and that wind end well!

IndiaMay · 27/05/2020 10:03

They're really samey names so could go either way. Just remember they will inevitably end up as Sam or Joe.

poppym12 · 27/05/2020 10:07

I prefer Samuel Joseph. Lovely names.

Foxes157 · 27/05/2020 22:53

Definitely Samuel Joseph. That was the chosen name for dd1.

Sam seems to be less common than Jo as a girls name here. And it sounds better with your same name but I'm not a fan of illiteration.
