Joseph Samuel or Samuel Joseph

Hello all, me and DH are due to have a son on 12th June (our first child) and in terms of names, we both really like the names Joseph/Joe and Samuel/Sam (Joseph slightly more) but we were wondering whether Joseph Samuel or Samuel Joseph flows/sounds better in your opinions? The surname will be Jackson btw, and any other good name suggestions you have feel free to state I am open to new alternatives too! Cheers

@moonset I always thought Jo is female and Joe is male? Kinda like Francis is male and Frances is female? Maybe I might be wrong though

@blancheduboiss I am starting to think Samuel Joseph does flow more nicely together, and with the surname too

I have a Joseph Samuel - known as Joe.

Love them both, but prefer Joseph Samuel. And I'm on your side with the Joe/Jo. Jo is for girls, Joe is for boys.

I grappled with this very issue a number of years ago. I went with Samuel Joseph and haven't regretted it for a minute

I preferred Samuel Joseph.

As for Samuel L Jackson.... well I hace the sane name as a globally famous rock star. It get remarked upon from time to time, but I am the default “famous name” to my friends and colleagues.

Yes OP you're right that Joe with an e is the male version that's what I understand too but I was referring to the sound of the name which is what I thought you meant too with the Sam comparison if you get my meaning?

@moonset no worries, I get your meaning . But no, I meant more how it visually appears on the page, like say if he was at work and emailing someone in the work realm he doesn’t know for example, Joe would always be male and Sam mostly but not always

Joe (Joseph) is a very good name. I may be slightly biased

Samuel Joseph but think about whether he will be Sam Jackson or Samuel Jackson

Jo and Joe sound the same.

@MikeUniformMike I mean that will be up to him when he’s older if he wants to be known as Sam or Samuel of course - but I don’t mind either so there would be no problems with either on my part

I used to have a manager with the same name as a celebrity. It's not really an issue. The name works, so it's not going to be a problem.
Someone I worked with used to play a sport with a Brad Pitt not the actor.

I would avoid Michael.

Both are lovely, but I'd go for Joseph Samuel just because of the actor.

I prefer Samuel Joseph but then I biased as my favourite brother is called Samuel.

I'd probably pick Joseph because of Samuel L Jackson, but they are both lovely names whichever way round you choose to put them.

Samuel Joseph flows better. Don't worry about Samuel L Jackson.... yours will be Samuel J Jackson lol or just Sam?

Also there are barely any Samantha/Sams around now more Jos (Joanne/Joanna/Josie/Josephine)
