Full name - too long? Help!

Hi all!

I posted the other day asking opinions on the name Sebastian James Livingstone. We still like this name, however OH is now doubting it as he thinks it could be too long. I also know of a few Sebastian's born over the last few years...

So, what do you think of our other option:

Austin James Livingstone

(not an option to change middle name as it has huge sentimental family value)

Which do you prefer?

Sebastian Livingstone
Or
Austin Livingstone

Thank you! x

Sebastian is much nicer

arianwe · 23/05/2020 18:53

I think your first choice sounds perfect. Wouldn't say it was too long at all, and you don't give out your full name all that often anyway x

LockdownLoon · 23/05/2020 18:54

@LadyMonicaBaddingham thank you!

I think it's too long, how about Seth James Livingstone? Don't like Austin

LockdownLoon · 23/05/2020 20:20

@IckleBear thank you, I'm not too keen on Seth x

Really love both options. Very distinguished. Sorry, that’s not much help!

LockdownLoon · 23/05/2020 20:33

@Sandsnake but very kind, thank you!

Sebastian is much, much nicer than Austin.

Chances are, he'll end up being called Seb, and you can't get much shorter first name than 3 letters.

Twizbe · 23/05/2020 22:26

Sebastian all the way.

Personally I much prefer James as a first name

DramaAlpaca · 23/05/2020 23:13

I much prefer Austin James, but then I like shorter names.

Kneadtoknow · 23/05/2020 23:57

Absolutely Sebastian! In fact I was never too fussed on it but seeing this thread has actually changed my mind comply

LockdownLoon · 24/05/2020 08:03

@Kneadtoknow I was the same, it really really grew on me the more I said it out loud. However I think we're leaning towards Austin slightly over Sebastian. Although I love Sebastian, I prefer Austin to the shortened "Seb" which he would undoubtedly get 90% of the time!

Sebastian. Dislike Austin.

Mishmased · 24/05/2020 13:13

Definitely Sebastian it is strong, distinguished and lovely all rolled in one!

Mishmased · 24/05/2020 13:14

Sebastian can be shortened to Bastian obviously if you like nn Bastian

bluemoon2468 · 24/05/2020 22:04

Middle name aside, Sebastian Livingstone is a mouthful with too many matching sounds. I think it's the double 'st' sound that's the problem, but Austin is the same! So clearly you're fans of the sound 🙁

BaronessBomburst · 24/05/2020 22:10

Definitely Sebastian.
And it can be shortened to: Seb, Seba, Bas, Bassy, Bastian, Sebas, although you'll probably end up calling him Bas-man, Sausage, or Monkey-Face, or some such anyway. Wink

diddlediddle · 24/05/2020 22:14

Austin Livingstone doesn't flow well.

Although Sebastian is longer it flows better.

Ellmau · 24/05/2020 22:16

Both are fine, but I prefer Sebastian.

daisypond · 24/05/2020 22:20

I’m really not keen on Sebastian. And Seb is awful. I prefer both Austin and James, James a lot more.

BabbleBee · 24/05/2020 22:23

I know a couple of Austins and they both get called Oz or Ozzy. I prefer Seb to Oz any day.

LockdownLoon · 24/05/2020 22:46

This is so difficult!

Other names on our shortlist were:

Max
Ezra
Elijah
Arthur
Spencer (DH wasn't as keen)
Cian

Any other suggestions to go with our surname Livingstone would be appreciated 😇

SoapyChoc · 24/05/2020 22:52

I have the same number of letters in my surname and a 6 letter first name. I occasionally find there are not enough characters in online forms. When we have children I would probably try to choose a reasonably short first name for this reason. I do like Sebastian though!

Thecruxxofitis · 25/05/2020 01:32

I really like Cian!

LockdownLoon · 25/05/2020 09:42

@Thecruxxofitis throwing another contender into the mix 🤣
