What do you think of Parisa? It is a Persian name meaning Fairy-like, and fits our background. It is quite a well known name in our culture but I wonder how it will be perceived by others? It is pronounced Paree- Sah. What are your initial thoughts when you see this name? Pretty or absolutely awful? Honest opinions please!

I vote for Noor, but then I always vote for Noor when somebody wants an Arabic name, it's just too gorgeous. Grin

I don't love any -a name with Parisa because I'm not a fan of the matching end sounds, but flow with middle name it doesn't matter too much, people hear the whole name once when you introduce the baby, and after that it's rarely heard. So go with whatever you like best.

Iran isn’t an Arab country though - so if you want a Persian name it doesn’t really fit the bill.

Tyrannosaurusdrip · 22/05/2020 10:46

What about Parisa Emma?

Laburnam · 22/05/2020 10:53

My DD who is called Parisa doesn’t have a middle name

Lordfrontpaw · 22/05/2020 11:26

I know some who have two names (which can get confusing) so Javid and David. Generally if they live abroad. But it’s not norm, but then you aren’t in Iran. I’d go for something from other parts of the family as a nod to that culture too. Don’t go full Persian if it’s a ‘traditional’ (ie mouthful of ghreeeeeehhhh) surname!

Leila2020 · 22/05/2020 12:11

Thank you everyone for all the suggestions! Middle names are definitely not the norm, it has kind of been a modification in our families as we all mostly live in the UK & USA now, I think it’s quite a nice touch to have a middle name added in to honour someone special, so I don’t mind it. Even if it isn’t honouring a family member, if it sounds nice with the first name and has a good meaning, we will probably go for it.
Jasmine
Seren / Sirine
^ these came into my mind but I’m not keen some reason... They’re just so overused.

My cousin has a little Ayla (pronounced Eye-la) which is so cute, we really liked that name but can’t use it

Lordfrontpaw · 22/05/2020 13:31

Shirin? Or you could use Isla... Wink

Leila2020 · 22/05/2020 15:11

Does Parisa Isla go? With Isla starting with a vowel? I do love the name!

Pah-reesa-eye-la. Definitely! My (long) first name ends in A and middle starts with an E.

Leila2020 · 22/05/2020 15:52

I actually love it, Great suggestion Lordfrontpaw! :) I wish it could be the other way round:
Ayla Parisa
Isla Parisa, but I don’t think I can because of my cousins daughter.
Ayla or Isla?
Parisa Isla or Parisa Ayla?

FrownPrincess · 22/05/2020 16:11

FartnissEverbeans · 22/05/2020 19:26

I love this name!

All your middle name options are lovely as well.

If Isla/Ayla is too close to a family name, how about Parisa Aya?

Other ideas just because I like them:
Parisa Fai
Parisa Lili

Lordfrontpaw · 22/05/2020 19:39

Nonono it’s Isla! Isla! I’ve never helped name anyone else’s baby before! 🎉

Jenda · 22/05/2020 19:46

Beautiful name and works with all ages. I knew a very beautiful half Iranian Parisa, nickname Pari. If you love Parisa Sofia then you should use it, it's very rare that you will say the full name! But Parisa Isla is lovely too, and so is Parisa Noor!

Leila2020 · 23/05/2020 00:56

Thank you all for the wonderful comments and suggestions & especially to Lordfrontpaw for the suggestion of Isla! I was discussing with family today and they all love Parisa Isla! :) Looks like we have a name!

I'd pronounce Par iss ah- until you corrected me. If it's a name that in your culture is recognised, and known, I'd say go for it. I only ever have a 😏 when people choose obscure names from a culture which the child has no link to, and will be spending their entire life exposing their parents wanting to be yoonique on their behalf whilst having recognisable names themselves. It's a very pretty name.

Leila2020 · 23/05/2020 01:51

SD1978 I totally agree with you! Parisa is a very common name in our culture, but I was slightly concerned about us using it here. It sounds beautiful to my ears but internationally i was worried that it might sound ugly or weird. I was also worried that people may think we are a fan of Paris, and have made up our own name, so we had many reservations about this name. It’s so hard to balance all the aspects when choosing a name!
