Emerald - classy or trashy?

Looking for opinions please, we have our boys name selected but struggling to agree on a girls.
DH has suggested Emerald...I actually quite like it and could imagine the nn Eme/Emmy. It would also go with our surname which is only 3 letters.
We know people called Emma and Emily so they're out of the question.
What is everyone's thoughts on it? I've never met one so don't know how it would be perceived.
Many thanks!

Prefer Esmeralda

LuxuryWoman2020 · 21/05/2020 19:30

I rather love it.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 21/05/2020 19:30

I love it!

pilates · 21/05/2020 19:36

Emmeline is gorgeous
Emerald - stripper

REdReDRE · 21/05/2020 19:43

I'm not a fan and much prefer Emmeline or Emilia.

TheLette · 21/05/2020 21:59

I like it. My mum suggested Emerald Lake for our daughter's name which I thought was really bizarre, but Emerald on its own is nice. Re: poshness - it probably depends on what kind of person you are. If people think of your family as classy, refined etc then it will be fine and probably sound quite posh!

Pickles89 · 21/05/2020 22:06

I agree with the posters who say it depends how posh you are. If you have A Family Name and a couple of houses, can afford posh private schools and go on several expensive holidays a year you can get away with it. Any more on the normal side of that and it'll make people think 'stripper'.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 22/05/2020 08:14

I immediately thought 'stripper name' ...sorry!

This is just getting nasty now.

brontechick · 22/05/2020 08:41

No - nothing classy about it whatsoever! If you like Emmy - why don't you just chose that as name instead.

Eggybreadleg · 22/05/2020 09:02

Another one who's first thought was stripper name. It could of course work and be fine but I think it's a tricky one to make work and most kids wouldn't thank you for it.

sel2223 · 22/05/2020 09:25

Hmmm, it's not my taste but I do love Emmy/Emmie as a nn.
What about Emmeline?

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 22/05/2020 09:26

I really like it. Under used but isn't out there

rooarsome · 22/05/2020 09:32

Another vote for stripper chic. Sorry OP! Emmeline is lovely though

Magicbabywaves · 22/05/2020 09:39

Hmm. I don’t know. Initially I thought no, it’s trashy but then it does have a certain 1920s vibe to it, Pearl, Iris and Emerald type names. The thing is, I know four kids called Emmy and it’s dull to say the least.
I knew an Esmeralda, that means Emerald.

KindKylie · 22/05/2020 09:40

Having a daughter who is obsessed with Jacqueline Wilson has ruined a lot of these names for me!

There's lots with a similar sound including th eirusj Emer, Emaa, Emily, Emilie, Emmeline, Ember etc

SeasonFinale · 22/05/2020 09:51

Emmeline (pronounced - ean)

Emilia

I know not an Emmy name but what about Elodie.

pigoons · 22/05/2020 09:52

Trashy

SnowdropFox · 22/05/2020 09:53

Such a marmite name! I like it personally. But then I prefer nature based names like flowers, animals and gems. Some of the other suggestions such as Emmeline are just too frilly and posh sounding for me.
Each to their own! You can always give a more traditional mn to balance it out.

user1493494961 · 22/05/2020 11:22

Trashy, sorry.

MissMoodyMoo · 22/05/2020 12:46
