Hello - please can you let me know which of these names would be your favourite for a baby girl? All obviously ‘I’s apart from Hannah (I also love Iona but DH vetoed!)

Thanks everyone

Imogen by a mile @newtothis20 because it's one of my very very favourite names and one I would so love to use!! A bit different whilst also being so beautiful and classic with so many nickname options.

"Imogen" is so underused now, look at the official statistics, it's numbers have been falling for many years, whereas names like Nina (a nice name but no where near as special as Imogen) is on the increase and could overtake Imogen in the next few years or so:

Hannah is nice but not keen on Han, sounds like Ham

ElizabethMainwaring · 09/05/2020 09:39

I'm a Hannah. No-one has ever called me Han.

Isabel would be too popular for me to use but there again I have some extremely popular names on my list that I love despite their popularity, so you do you. I have a couple in my family (both older and younger) so it would be a no for me for that reason.
Imogen was on my list for years, so long that Ive sickened myself with it. It was first one myself and ex agreed on for DD1 but then he went off it. I’ve just bored myself with it over a long long time, but it’s a beautiful name and not too common. Cute on a little one, elegant on a lady.
I love Isla, again very popular but it’s on my list and one I like despite its popularity. I just like how it sounds.
I very much like Hannah, you’ve actually reminded me it should be on my list 😂 . Beautiful, classy and not used too often now. I’ve always loved this name, and like the symmetry with it being a palindrome.
Out of Iona and Nina I prefer Iona as long as the surname isn’t problematic.

Weighing popularity up, I would perhaps go for Imogen for firstborn and save Hannah for future sibling. Or Imogen Hannah first and middle. Or Imogen Eila - pronounced same as Isla, just so you aren’t repeating I initial twice. I remember hearing of 4 siblings called Eila, Iona, Ishbel and Rose and thinking what gorgeous names.
Best of luck!

Isabel is my favourite out of your list! Smile

123Dancewithme · 09/05/2020 11:41

Hannah. More unusual nowadays than the other three.

LotusClover · 09/05/2020 11:43

Isla is my favourite, though I'd avoid it personally because it's becoming so popular. Same with Isabel - there are far too many Isabel, Isabelle, Isobel, Isabella's etc and it will just get confusing.

Hannah is not my taste but it's a lot less popular than it used to be.

I'd go for Imogen because it's strong, not too frilly, and not massively popular at the moment.

Strongly dislike Nina, it sounds silly to me. Don't like Iona either as I hear it as "I own a-".

Bert2020 · 09/05/2020 11:46

Imogen is my favourite and would have been this babies but expecting ds.

Nonnymum · 09/05/2020 11:49

Imogen is my favourite and I don't think it is very common at the moment

Lovemeloveyou · 09/05/2020 11:55

I love Imogen and Isla, I think Hannah is a little dated
I like Isabel but it is a very popular.

Weenurse · 09/05/2020 11:56

I met Izoura this week.
Beautiful,

Robs20 · 09/05/2020 11:56

Imogen is my favourite from your list.

MarshaBradyo · 09/05/2020 11:57

Imogen

ODFOx · 09/05/2020 11:59

Imogen,
Then Isobel (different spelling to yours: with an a in the middle it finishes with double L or ole I think.
Others are both nice but not special particularly.

girl78 · 09/05/2020 12:30

Imogen :)
Love this name.
This would absolutely have been my daughters name, but I’m having a son.

daisypond · 09/05/2020 12:40

Nina is main favourite. Isabel would have been favourite a few years ago.
Imogen is slightly downmarket now for me. And I find the idea of a printer’s error offputting, even though it’s now established.
Isla is fine, but is again slightly downmarket now.
Hannah is too dull.
If it was Anna, that would be good.

Theresomethingaboutdairy · 09/05/2020 13:01

Isabel or Hannah would have my vote

LottaBean · 09/05/2020 14:11

Imogen is my favourite from your list, a friend nearly named her daughter Imogen and I was a bit sad when she didnt!

WeveGottaGetTherouxThis · 09/05/2020 14:27

I love Imogen (with potential to shorten it to Immy).

I actually have an Isla and I love the name, but find it far too popular so regret using it (had no idea of its popularity when we picked it). We live in a small village, and she is one of three Islas (that I know of!), but that being said, she goes to school in a nearby large town, and is the only one in the whole school (ranging in age from 3 to 13).

Ohwhatbliss · 09/05/2020 14:49

Nina! Great name. The others are all pretty but a bit meh

Ellmau · 09/05/2020 20:57

Love Isabel and Imogen.

Hannah and Isla both a bit dull.

Iknewyouwerewaitingforme · 09/05/2020 21:08

Isabel definitely

SeigneurLapindeGrantham · 09/05/2020 21:09

Love Nina it has a lovely ring to it.

ohwerehalfwaythere · 09/05/2020 21:10

Every second baby is called Isla at the moment

sunflowersandtulips50 · 09/05/2020 21:13
