Think we have narrowed it down to these two. Which do you prefer? Thanks

Leo
Jonah

Big brother is Laurie.

Other names on our shortlist were Seth, Sacha, Joah (rhymes with Noah) and Casper.

Jonah.

Lovely name. 'Goes' better with Laurie and anyway there are so many Leos now...

daisypond · 02/05/2020 21:28

Leo. But I’m not keen on siblings starting with the same letter. Never Jonah in a million years. I like Casper from the other names. Sacha is nice too.

ANoiseAnnoys · 02/05/2020 21:30

I like Jonah, nice biblical name!

TempsPerdu · 02/05/2020 21:35

Jonah - much nicer and more unusual than Leo, and goes better with Laurie imo.

Love Laurie btw - it would be a strong contender if we ever had a DS.

daisypond · 02/05/2020 21:42

I’m baffled why people think Jonah goes with Laurie. They are very different styles of names. Old Testament Jewish jinx v Christian Saint. They really jar as a pair to me.

Spied · 02/05/2020 21:44

Leo.

Bringmewineandcake · 02/05/2020 21:45

Jonah just because I don't like Laurie and Leo. You'll be tripping up over which one you meant to call all the time...Lolly...Lelo...

Temple29 · 02/05/2020 21:45

Jonah but Leo is nice too, just more popular I think

Spirali · 02/05/2020 21:55

Jonah is nicer out of the first two, but I love Sacha the most by miles!

BackforGood · 02/05/2020 21:58

I like Jonah.

I would also not give siblings the same initial, (even if I didn't prefer Jonah over Leo).

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 02/05/2020 21:59

Seth

Pixilicious · 02/05/2020 22:05

Not Jonah, a Jonah is someone who is bad luck.

Pixilicious · 02/05/2020 22:06

Seth is the best of a bad bunch

SliAnCroix · 02/05/2020 22:08

Jonah.

I was going to say Leo but brother Laurie makes Jonah the better choice

thegreylady · 02/05/2020 22:09

I like Leo very much. The association of Jonah with bad luck puts me right off.

Thisismytimetoshine · 02/05/2020 22:09

Leo.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 02/05/2020 22:11

Jonah. Gorgeous.

Pol16 · 02/05/2020 22:13

Casper out of all of them. Jonah over Leo.

wowfudge · 02/05/2020 22:16

Seth. Sacha is short for Alexander, which I prefer.

TheLovelyOtherDinosaur · 02/05/2020 22:21

Sacha

Marimari93 · 02/05/2020 22:22

Jonah

Blursula · 03/05/2020 07:39

Thanks all. It’s interesting as before mumsnet I had never heard of ‘a Jonah’ being used as a word to describe someone who brings bad luck. I’d heard of the whale story etc. The jinx association doesn’t bother me personally, but I’m intrigued to know if that will be the immediate thing many people think of. Is it more of an association for a slightly older generation perhaps? (No offence intended - just curious! Nobody my age seems familiar with a Jonah in this context)

@TempsPerdu thank you! We still love his name - it gets lots of compliments and we have never met another. Struggling to find any name I love as much tbh.

I love Jonah. I know loads of Leos and Jonah goes a lot better with Laurie.

daisypond · 03/05/2020 07:52

I don’t think Jonah meaning jinx is something that older people only would know. I would say it is general cultural or linguistic knowledge. Jonah as a word is in any dictionary as a noun. I can’t think of many other biblical names like that - where you can say he or she is a something. Except Jezebel. Goliath. Judas.
