What are your opinions on Rory?

I hate it. It is difficult to pronounce. It sounds to me like a very boring name for a very boring man. I always imagine it would be the name of a very unattractive chap, seriously lacking in charisma. And now there are Rorys everywhere. But I’m one of the few people on Mumsnet who seems to dislike the name. The popularity of it alone would put me off. Don’t let me sway you though, because there will always be someone who hates the name you choose.

Love it we would have gone with this but it didn't go well with surname.

Rory is pronounced "row ree"

The Rorys I know pronounce it Roar-ee.

Great name. My friends little lad was just named Rory. Another df has a lad who’s 10 and a Rory. So it’s a timeless name.

Don't know which part of the world you live @StylishDuck but where I'm from, Rory is pronounced 'Roar-ee' not 'Row-ree'...I've never heard it said like that anywhere. Think of Rory Bremner...Roar (like a lion!) ree (rhymes with tea) 👍

@HaveAtEm I'm Scottish. It's entirely likely that we pronounce "row" differently. I was meaning row as in "row a boat" not as in "having a row"

Many people struggle with their Rs.

Rory sounds awful if that's the case...! Worse than Rupert.

@StylishDuck but that makes even less sense to me (absolutely no disrespect meant here at all 😳) because Rory Bremner is from Edinburgh and HE pronounces his name ‘Roar-ee’.

To my ear Row-ree and Roar-ee sound exactly the same too. Where I'm from though, we don't often use the word row as in argument, so I default to the 'row your boat' pronunciation. Love the name, OP.

High five sister! 😂 I know two Rory’s so me and my friends have to use their surnames to differentiate- both surnames start with ‘r’. It’s a curse! 😂

Another 'love it' here. It conjures up someone masculine and a bit wild in a good way. I never thought it suited Rory Bremner.

I like it but sadly DH doesn’t.
