Cohen?

OH has been so set on Arlo and for him to suggest anything else is a miracle. His suggestion today was Cohen. I'm not sure what I think - I know it has Jewish connections, but after saying it aloud a lot it's sort of growing on me. There were over 160 Cohen's born in the UK last year.

Thoughts?

Also if you like Arlo but popularity puts you off how about Milo or Otto?

If you like Cohen how about the spelling Comghan? Depending on where you live it may take people time to get used to the spelling and perhaps not one you would want to use with no Irish connections but worth a thought.

I generally dislike the trend for surnames as first names anyway, but for some reason it feels inappropriate to use a Jewish surname as a first name for your child if you're not Jewish and just like the way it sounds.

It's as inappropriate as Bodhi imo. I really like Isaac, Elijah and Casper/Caspar.

OH has agreed about Cohen, so that's off, and also is coming round to the fact Arlo is too popular and I'm not over keen!

The Coen I know is Dutch, and it is pronounced like Koon, not Cohen.

Don't call your kid Koon, however you spell it.

I think Cohen isn't offensive provided his middle name is 'the barbarian'.

Are all really lovely @Seagull94 but if Arlo’s popularity puts you off I’d probably avoid Ezra from that list just because it’s rising fast. Sonny or Austin would be perfect

Agree that Cohen is is not offensive at all as far as Jews are concerned, but it would raise eyebrows if used as a first name.

It is a beautiful name.

As a Jewish person I find it quite inappropriate as it’s a very holy name but love Ezra. So cute. Love Sonny but not sure if works for an adult

I love it but the Jewish connection would make me feel uncomfortable to use it.

I'm Jewish and it makes me cringe to hear it used. I also think it's very faddish. I can't believe the people using it don't think it through a bit more/ goggle the origins.
