Vivienne or Vivian

DH totally loves the name Vivienne. I do love it but am not keen on the shortening Viv. I prefer Vivi or V before Viv. What are your preferred spelling/pronunciation?

How would you naturally pronounce Vivienne? I prefer this spelling. What are your thoughts?

I would pronounce Vivienne as "vi-vee-EN", like "en" as in "pen". I'm not sure if that's the correct way of pronouncing it though.

Vivienne is so much nicer and more modern than Vivian.

Same, Vivienne rhymes with pen, Vivian rhymes with Gideon.

I prefer Vivienne and I would shorten to V or Vi

Vivienne is a lovely spelling, but you may need to adjust to the fact that people will spell it Vivian, Vivianne, Vivien, and on a particularly memorable occasion, Vivyane.

@MmeSzyszkoBohusz oh goodness! Would you say your name Viv-i-ehn? I think it's beautiful that way, I would worry people would say Viv-i-uhn. Hope it's served you well and our DD would love it as I hope you have :)

Vivienne is nicer. Vivien reminds me of Vyvyan from The Young Ones.

Lovely name. I'd go with Vivien as it's less frilly than Vivienne.

I wouldn't pronounce Vivienne the French way in the UK, I'd pronounce both versions of the name exactly the same.

Whatever you choose don't use Vivian, that's the male name. And Vyvyan is traditionally a surname.

I know a 3 year old Vivienne and she's a Vivi and never has been a Viv

My male boss is a Vivian and he constantly gets 'Vivian, but isn't that a girls name?' And being the pedant he is, he then has to tell them the correct spelling and pronunciation of the male and female versions. Drives us mad!

Vivienne is a beautiful name. Viv sounds like an older woman. VIVi sounds much more appropriate for a child.

All the Vivienne’s I know have been viv - 2 of them really tried to insist on vivi but have now resigned themselves and embraced Viv

Just be aware that i have a friend we call viv and this gets changed to tit on predictive text!
