Not pregnant or anything but extremely fed up and nosey..
What names did you almost use for your dc but didn't and why?

For DD mine were:
Angelica (Didn't like the nn Angel..)
Emma (Beautiful but too common)
Jiwon (It fitted my culture and had a cute meaning but we thought it would be too hard to pronounce in the UK)

So, what were the names you almost gave your dc but didn't?

(I'm forming a MN addiction i think..)

Nearly used Jasper or Otis and regret not using

golddustwomen · 14/04/2020 17:50

Nearly used Rayleigh for my daughter. No regret - In fact I am extremely fucking happy I didn't use it Grin

golddustwomen · 14/04/2020 17:51

No offence to anyone called Rayleigh, just completely not my taste now I'm older!

SpicedCamomile · 14/04/2020 17:54

For some reason DH suddenly added Prentice to the mix the day before DS2 was born. He denies it now but it was in contention for a day or two.

UpAndGoing · 14/04/2020 17:58

@Whatsyourflava oh Jasper and Otis both sound lovely! I would regret not using too..
@golddustwomen tbh Rayleigh wouldn't be my cup of tea either. What does it mean?
@SpicedCamomile You made me spit out my coffee! Prentice?!! (No offence to anyone with that name...)

Melody. Didn’t use in the end and don’t regret so much rather than feel sad I wouldn’t be able to use it for a sibling in the future as I don’t think it matches DD’s name very well, completely different vibe!

M0mmyneedswine · 14/04/2020 18:05

Josh for ds2, glad we didnt as so many round our area he would have had several others in class

TinyTimsCrutch · 14/04/2020 18:09

Quinn didn’t use as DJ said it’s a name for lady bits, who knewBlush

TinyTimsCrutch · 14/04/2020 18:09

Dh Hmm

OhCantThinkOfANewName · 14/04/2020 18:10

We didn’t use Daisy.....

We already have a Poppy, Jamie Oliver already had a Poppy and Daisy - we didn’t, don’t and never will mix in the same circles as Jamie Oliver, so not quite sure why I was so botheredConfused

rosieposies · 14/04/2020 18:19

I might be wrong @TinyTimsCrutch but I thought it was quim?

rosieposies · 14/04/2020 18:20

If my partner had let me I'd have chosen Aurora, Rory for short. Or Aurelia. He said no way to both 😭

Zisforstripyoss · 14/04/2020 18:20

Anastasia for DD1 - we loved the name but didn't like any shortenings. Anastasia is a bit of a mouthful to use all the time.

Saskia for DD2 - again didn't like shortenings.

MissBax · 14/04/2020 18:23

Our DD was called Ava (in utero) till about a month before she was born because we realised how popular it had become.
Still love the name and would have used it if there weren't so many.

Finnemoo · 14/04/2020 20:39

Not as adventurous as some of these but we also liked Cora, Nell, Pippa, Cleo and Beatrix for DD.

If we’d had a boy we loved August, but she was born then so we probably wouldn’t have used it anyway. I’ve always really loved Maxim/Maxime for a boy, maybe next time!

Enko · 14/04/2020 20:43

Seraphina for dd3 She just didnt look like a Seraphina and at 16 she still doesn't However, I love the name

morningcuppatea · 14/04/2020 22:00

I really wanted to call DS Thomas but DH put his foot down as with our surname it would be the same name as someone infamous who was around at the time.

I was also very tempted by Angus, I love Gus for short, but we have no Scottish family history so that put me off!

sunshineandshowers21 · 14/04/2020 22:06

my eldest was going to be finn until he was born and looked nothing like a finn. my daughter was almost georgiana but then we settled on emmeline. luckily i’m having another girl and she’ll definitely be georgiana. almost used jude for my second son but there was a name that my dad has always loved so we decided to use that and i’m so glad we did because i couldn’t imagine him being called anything else.

TempsPerdu · 14/04/2020 22:09

Gaia - was very nearly DD’s name but we decided it was just too ‘out there’
Rosa - still love it and would probably be any future DD’s name (not likely to happen!)
Anya - decided it was too similar to close friend’s DD Anna.
Clio - we considered both Cleo and Clio but although I prefer this spelling (like the Greek muse) most people just think of the car

MeMeMeYou · 14/04/2020 22:20

Was tempted by Isla for DD but glad I didn’t as v popular.

Nearly called son Teddy or Ted but daughters classmate had a sibling a few weeks before and called baby Teddy and I just couldn’t after that. I also liked Arthur shortened ti Art/Artie but no one else liked it at all and all the negative feedback put me off. Arthur seems to have gone super popular now anyway. Briefly toyed with Augustus shortened to Gus but couldn’t shake off the Augustus Gloop link from Charlie and the chocolate factory!

TinyTimsCrutch · 14/04/2020 22:34

@rosieposies maybe he just thought it was too similar then Grin

Fuzzybumblebee · 14/04/2020 22:40

Almost called my DD Sophia or Bryony, love her name tho but still like Bryony

HalfTermHalfTerm · 14/04/2020 22:44

@TinyTimsCrutch I might be wrong, but I think he’s thinking of ‘quim’, not ‘Quinn’!

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 14/04/2020 22:45

Ever since I was I teenager I wanted to call my daughter Elsa (after the lion) she was born the same year Frozen came out im so glad we didn’t use it.
Ds was going to be Tabitha had he been a girl. Still love that name.

TinyTimsCrutch · 14/04/2020 22:47

@halftermhalfterm it seems so, still glad we didn’t use it though. Wouldn’t of suited Dc
