Not pregnant or anything but extremely fed up and nosey..
What names did you almost use for your dc but didn't and why?

For DD mine were:
Angelica (Didn't like the nn Angel..)
Emma (Beautiful but too common)
Jiwon (It fitted my culture and had a cute meaning but we thought it would be too hard to pronounce in the UK)

So, what were the names you almost gave your dc but didn't?

(I'm forming a MN addiction i think..)

Omg I love August and Saskia and didn't use them.....have never seen them on a thread before this. August: his for short....still love it but both my boys quite shy and easily embarrassed so I'm glad they have common names. Saskia I still love.....Dh didnt

Iloveknockknockjokes · 15/04/2020 00:16
  • gus for short not his
SnowsInWater · 15/04/2020 00:42

DD was nearly Tia until a Spanish waiter told us it means aunt in Spanish which totally put me off it. We now have a dog called Tia instead 😂

CoronaIsComing · 15/04/2020 10:30

Riley, in my head he’s an Australian/ Californian surfer/ skater dude with long sunbleached hair, which is exactly what DS (10) is! Unfortunately, we live in Northern England and it’s pretty obvious why we didn’t use it, as judgemental as that is. It usually comes out as (a screeched) Rahhhhhlehhhh in a northern accent too 🙈

Umnoway · 15/04/2020 11:08

My eldest was almost called Audey, like Audrey without the R. I have no idea why, he actually has a perfectly sensible and lovely name but hormones made me think that was a good idea!

I also blame hormones for this but I wanted to call DD Sunflower at one point Confused. She also has a sensible and lovely name...

DD2 was going to be Seth if she was a boy (didn’t find out the sex).

Wanted to call our youngest Sebastian but DH wouldn’t allow it so it’s one of his middle names instead.

Spirali · 15/04/2020 13:34

@Iloveknockknockjokes Saskia is mentioned every other day! I’ve seen August quite a few times too Smile

userabcname · 15/04/2020 13:38

I wanted George but it's the IL's dog so DH vetoed. I like the name Angelica! I'd use the nn Jelly!

BaroleCaskin · 15/04/2020 13:39

I've always loved the name Noelle, but DP said no because none of my daughters were born near Christmas.

I really wanted to call my son Macaulley, but I'm pleased I didn't now as I don't think he would have suited it.

vampirethriller · 15/04/2020 19:56

My daughter was called Julia up until the second I saw her and she looked nothing like a Julia.

Alwaysundecided · 16/04/2020 08:46

My DS was so nearly Keelan. I don't like it now and glad we didn't use it.
If it was down to me he would have been Jesse, but DH was having none of it.

Bluebellpainting · 16/04/2020 08:51

Henry but then saw baby pictures of my husband who had ginger hair as a child. Baby’s hair also had a gingery tinge. Love his hair but didn’t want him to end up being nicknamed prince Harry. Probably overthought it but can’t imagine him being a Henry now anyway.

marriednotdead · 16/04/2020 09:02

Very important to note, this was pre Eastenders! We’d agreed that if I had a girl, I’d name her and he’d name a boy.
I loved the name Bianca (anyone remember the Rescuers?) but ex hated it. And bizarrely, he wanted Ricky for a boy which I’d almost come round to. Thankfully DD arrived and saved herself from a life time of misery Grin

marriednotdead · 16/04/2020 09:11

He vetoed Bianca in case that wasn’t clear!

Totally outing but many moons later and a different relationship, pregnant again. DP obsessed with the name Boris to the point where all my colleagues referred to my bump as baby Boris. Got as far as sitting in the register office and the registrar asking what name. He jumped in with Boris and her eyebrows shot up as she looked at me. I rolled my eyes and told her to ignore him Grin

Both DCs know of and are amused by their lucky escapes, fortunately for the world I stopped at two.

SageRosemary · 16/04/2020 10:33

I would have liked Robyn for a girl after a much loved uncle nick-named Robin. Never said it aloud but my SIL used Robin for her son, because he was born with red hair, would have been Scarlett for a girl. I fancied Milo for a boy, we didn't have one but SIL used that name too - for their dog!

I would have liked to use Darina or Doireann for DD1 but DH used his power of veto, whilst I vetoed Catherine and Elizabeth. Still love my names and the names we eventually used.

SimplySteveRedux · 16/04/2020 10:46

Jessica, Amelia, Rosa and Melody were all on the cards for DD. We went with something more common (Rebecca) that she's changed as an adult! I'm clearly shit with names 😂

Flynn999 · 16/04/2020 11:34

Toby... then a friend son 'oh like the carvery, she then started to talk about a roast dinner. The name was ruined after that. Angry I still love it as well 😂

Bluntness100 · 16/04/2020 11:40

Lara. I loved the name and it was before Lara Croft, but my husband couldn’t get past the connection with the cricketer Brian Lara, who I’d never heard of (not a cricket fan) and vetoed.

Followthelight99 · 16/04/2020 18:43

Pollyanna

nancyclancy123 · 16/04/2020 22:10

I really wanted Clementine for my dd, but my dh said no. Dh wanted Paloma, but I said no.
Her name is Felicity, so nothing like the other names we liked!! Grin

itsemily17 · 26/04/2020 12:07

Girls - Summer-Rose for DD1. Very nearly used Jasmine both times but didn’t. Maybe one day!

Boys - Dylan first time and Isaac second. But have two girls

DappledThings · 27/04/2020 12:03

I might be wrong @TinyTimsCrutch but I thought it was quim

It is quim but for me Quinn is too close. I snigger every time I see a Quinny buggy. It's like a combination of quim and the Shalespearean cunny.

redwoodmazza · 27/04/2020 12:42

Amberley
Danielle
Bernadette
Carys

I had a boy! LOL

wednesdaywoe · 27/04/2020 12:52

Ramona and Mona for short but husband didn't like it.

fitzbilly · 27/04/2020 13:15

Xanthe, Indigo and Ramona.

I had three boys so never got to use these names. Still love them and think they are lovely girls names.

DontTellThemYourNamePike · 27/04/2020 13:58

We fancied Alexander for our second DS as it's a family name. But then we realised that, because we were using a double barrelled surname, he was going to sound like a firm of solicitors or accountants! In saying that, he would have been Alex for everyday life.
