Those names you wouldn't use...

...but really want to!

I was joking to a friend I might use the names Raisin and Wooster. Those are obviously total joke names but it made me wonder something. What names do you secretly like but don't have a thick enough skin to use or don't wish to 'inflict" it on a child? All subjective of course.

Mine:
Hortensia (love this!)
Augustus
Lucretia
Lavinia
Antigone
Amadeus
Wulfric
Claus (maybe if I move i could use this lol)
Hedwig
Virginia (the whole virginity as a virtue thing is ghastly)
Bláithín (I got told this is old-fashioned and I am distinctly un-Irish)

Thor

I really wanted to name DS this as it was my Great-Grandfather's name. However the Marvel movies came out a couple of years later so it's probably a good job we went for something more traditional. People would assumed DS had a brother called Hulk or something...

FairfaxAikman · 14/04/2020 08:05

I love the name Michael but I can't use it for DS2.
It turns out I called DS1 the name my parents had wanted to call me if I was a boy. Michael is what they would have called DSis.

It would just be too weird.

blossomwilloughby · 14/04/2020 08:15

Isambard
Matthias - no German connection whatsoever
Wolfgang - as above

When I was an early teenager, I planned on having id twin girls called Jezebel & Cassandra. It was only later that I found out what the names meant or were associated with.

Moses is often used in the Jewish community. Often as Moshe or Moishe.
