Neither of them feel posh to me anymore as they are so popular in my area. I would have previously said Hugo sounded posher, though

Hugo by a country mile

Pemba · 07/04/2020 12:34

Hugo, definitely.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 07/04/2020 12:34

Hugo

Guttersnipe · 07/04/2020 12:35

Hugo, definitely. Oliver has become quite mainstream.

Neither of them are pretentious imo.
Hugo is 'posher'

PieceOfMaria · 07/04/2020 12:36

Hugo used to be very posh. It's not any more. Lot's of people have picked up on the name because of Hugo Boss and they are definitely not posh. It's still a nice name though. Oliver is posh if you are over 40, not at all posh if you are under 25.

Juanmorebeer · 07/04/2020 12:37

Hugo

Useruseruserusee · 07/04/2020 12:38

I have a Hugo. I would say we are middle class, we just chose it because it’s a nice name.

georgialondon · 07/04/2020 12:39

Hugo

Doyoumind · 07/04/2020 12:39

Hugo by far. Oliver is pretty common in terms of how many children are named it.

Crabbo · 07/04/2020 12:39

Hugo is posher but I wouldn’t call either of them pretentious. Just normal names.

HollyBen · 07/04/2020 12:39

Hugo

Hugo. Oliver was the most popular name for at least six years in a row so there are tens of thousands of them (a least two a class in our primary which is very mixed in terms of intake from different social areas). Hugo still fairly posh I’d imagine, I don’t think it’s pretentious though?

TheReluctantCountess · 07/04/2020 12:40

Hugo

TheMandalorian · 07/04/2020 12:41

A name is only posh or pretentious if you like to stereotype. Hmm
Usually a form of othering in a precursor to bullying.
Are you a bully?

ParkheadParadise · 07/04/2020 12:42

Hugo

inwood · 07/04/2020 12:42

I would never have considered Oliver 'posh'.

dementedma · 07/04/2020 12:44

You wouldnt find either round where I live!

ViserionTheDragon · 07/04/2020 13:43

Yep, agree with pp. Oliver is the new John but Hugo is still posh and pretentious. If you want to go a bit further, why not go with Peregrine Wink.

VivaLeBeaver · 07/04/2020 13:44

Hugo posher than Oliver.

Tonyaster · 07/04/2020 13:45

Or John.

Floralnomad · 07/04/2020 13:47

Hugo definitely although even that is not particularly posh . Oliver is very mainstream normal like Sebastian.

VivaLeBeaver · 07/04/2020 13:58

How about Tarquin?

Though my iPad suggests Tarquinius! 😁👍
