Louise or Ivy?

After narrowing down a long list of names we've decided our favourite are Louise & Ivy

What are your thoughts on each and do you have any suggestions you think we may like?

Her middle name will be Meryl for 100% as it's in honour of my late God mother who was literally an angel to my life. Surname is Colombo.

TIA & hope everyone is staying safe :)

I love the name Ivy I would go with that x

Fivefourthree · 07/04/2020 14:03

I like Ivy (was my grandmother's name ❤️) but it has regained popularity again so there might be lots in her class. Louise is pretty, and not 'yet' back in fashion so would be quite unusual I should think, if that's important to you.

Useruseruserusee · 07/04/2020 14:05

I love Ivy.

It was on my short list both times but we had two boys so never got to use it. I also like Olive, which I feel is a similar kind of name?

RoseMartha · 07/04/2020 14:07

Louise or Louisa

Crookshanksthecat · 07/04/2020 14:07

Ivy is so cute and quite fashionable now.
Louise is dull and very eighties.

Pemba · 07/04/2020 15:53

I know Ivy is very popular right now, but I just don't find it an attractive name at all.

Louise I find very pretty, one of my favourite names. I am well aware that many people will reject it just because it was so popular here in the 60s and 70s, but to me it is a classic, European and sophisticated. 'The birds in the trees seem to whisper 'Louise'' as the old song says. (Maurice Chevalier?) One of Queen Victoria's daughters was Princess Louise, the most daring and rebellious one.

I do quite like Louisa too (which IS currently quite popular). But ironically Louisa gives me more of a stuffy Victorian vibe, slightly. Maybe because of Louisa May Alcott, author of 'Little Women'?

There's also the lovely Lady Louise, granddaughter of HRH.

timetest · 07/04/2020 16:44

Louise is a lovely name. Ivy is alright but there are quite a few of them around now.

Mollymaejonrs · 07/04/2020 17:40

Louise

pilates · 07/04/2020 17:46

Louisa is lovely
Ivy isn’t
Louise ok

AlliKaneSon · 07/04/2020 18:54

I was about to say the same as some previous posters have said, Louisa Meryl is lovely!

user246854 · 07/04/2020 19:03

Louise is a nice name it's one of my Dc middle name I also really like Luisa

Spied · 07/04/2020 19:07

Louisa.
Much nicer than Louise imo.
Love Eloise too.

Really dislike Ivy.

17caterpillars1mouse · 07/04/2020 19:58

I like Louise (like other posters, I prefer Louisa) but I find Louise a refreshing change from all the Lily's, Ada's etc around at the moment. I think it would be really sweet on a toddler /little girl but sounds great on a adult too and not too cutsy

I like Ivy too but it's becoming too popular for me, I much prefer names that are a bit unexpected rather than thinking oh yes, lovely, but another one

ofwarren · 07/04/2020 20:02

I definitely prefer Louise rather than Ivy. Ivy sounds harsh somehow.
I also prefer the name Louisa though.

MoggTheCat · 07/04/2020 22:07

My name used to be Louise and I changed it by deed poll. I absolutely hated it my whole life. There were 4 Louise’s in my class at school and it was just such a common name. Ivy Meryl is lovely.

Bouncingbelle · 07/04/2020 23:24

Louise is a beautiful, classic name that I havent heard on a baby for years. Louisa is also fabulous.
Ivy just reminds me of a coronation st character & it's just one of the 'old granny's names that are so popular just now but will date really badly.

123Dancewithme · 07/04/2020 23:26

Ivy is boring and trendy. Just blends in with all the other Ava, Evie, Isla names.

Louise is ok but I prefer Louisa, which is one of my favourite girls names.

MotherOfAllNameChanges · 07/04/2020 23:28

Love Ivy
Prefer Eloise

MotherOfAllNameChanges · 07/04/2020 23:29

A Daisy is a weed too 🤷🏻‍♀️

Krisskrosskiss · 07/04/2020 23:29

Ivy. I think it's a beautiful classic name

StarbucksSmarterSister · 07/04/2020 23:32

Ivy. I used to hate it, love it now.

Louise is a real 1960s name. Very dated.

mathanxiety · 07/04/2020 23:34

I love Louise.

I think Ivy is a wee bit twee.

mathanxiety · 07/04/2020 23:37

I somehow skipped over your surname - I think Louise goes better with it than Ivy. The obvious nicknames for Louise would also work well with it (thinking Lou, Lulu).
