Innes or Hamish?

Hi everyone.
We have just had a super cute baby boy and we are trying to settle on his name. Our final 2 choices are Innes and Hamish. We have a 1 syllable surname (not going to share in case it is outing) and are Scottish living in Scotland

Any views would be much appreciated!

Like both, I knew Innes as a boy's name and think it's a bit more unique than Hamish

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 16/03/2020 16:41

I’d go for Innes. Ds3 has a lovely friend called Innes.

Mummyeyes · 16/03/2020 16:44

Torn. Like both. You can't go wrong.

iismum · 16/03/2020 16:46

I love Innes. DD used to have boy-Innes and girl-Ines in her class - I always thought it was a strange name for a girl! It hadn’t occurred to me that non-Scots might not know it’s a male name. I really like both of them but prefer Innes.

Whatsyourflava · 16/03/2020 16:54

I do like Hamish but I don’t like the “Ham” part of it at the start, I’m fussy

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 16/03/2020 17:26

We know a West Highland Terrier who is called Hamish.

PineappleDanish · 16/03/2020 17:29

Reminds me of Big Innes in Still Game. Fab name.

Just don't give him the Stoorie Midori....

Ines as a girls name isn't pronounced the same way as Innes. Ines is more inn-ezzz whereas Innes is Inn-iss. Nobody up here would see Innes written down and think it's a girl.

DramaAlpaca · 16/03/2020 19:25

I really like both, with a slight preference for Innes.

siananigans · 16/03/2020 19:41

Scottish here, I know of Innes as a boys name and live it! I do like Hamish too, but it has negative connotations for me in relation to an ex, which I can't really get past! 😂

IKEA888 · 16/03/2020 19:44

Innes is my favourite.
in my child's nursery is South West Scotland there are 4 Hamishes out of 30 kids.
I only know of one Inness

Habibtihayati · 16/03/2020 20:18

I'm in Scotland too and love the names Innes. Whatever you choose, congratulations on your new son!

Both great names (unhelpful!)

Congratulations on your baby.

Whatsyourflava · 16/03/2020 22:16

Congratulations!! Come back and update us @user1471465987

BikeRunSki · 16/03/2020 22:16

I know an Innes (male and surname, both Scotish), Ines (female, unsure of nationality), Inez (female, spanish)

Apolloanddaphne · 16/03/2020 22:19

I only know one Innes and he is a burly, ruddy cheeked , heavy drinking farmer. I would go with Hamish.

jigsawmaniac · 16/03/2020 22:35

Innes definitely!

DitheringDoris · 16/03/2020 22:36

Love the name Hamish!

Astronica · 17/03/2020 02:08

Both good names but I prefer Hamish.

emmathedilemma · 17/03/2020 08:16

People in scotland would know that Innes is a boy!
I prefer Hamish though.

Isthistrueor · 17/03/2020 11:17

I love Hamish.

BettyIsMyFavouriteSquirrel · 17/03/2020 11:40

I’m English and I thought Innes was a girls name, so I’d go for Hamish for that reason alone, he may not always live in Scotland.

Unless your surname is MacBeth, in which case I retract my previous statement.

bridgetreilly · 17/03/2020 22:14

Innes!

It's not the same name as Inez or Ines, people.

Bouncingbelle · 18/03/2020 01:51

Innes!!
Which did you go for, OP? :)
