Holiday as a name?

Holiday for a girl, is it usable? I’ve really got my heart set on it but my family isn’t keen 😭

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
SeaGale · 12/03/2020 09:38

If it was always shortened to Holly then I suppose it could work. Bizarre though!

Apolloanddaphne · 12/03/2020 09:39

It works for Holliday Grainger although she spells it with two LL's. I prefer it that way.

Defenestratethecat · 12/03/2020 09:39

What is it about the name you like? What about Halliday instead? Or Holly?

AnneJeanne · 12/03/2020 09:39

I guess you could. I had a great grand parent named Christmas! It’s not in the mainstream and might get shortened to Holly, but it’s not awful.

Mamato2gorgeousboys · 12/03/2020 09:46

What an odd choice! Call the child Holly, don’t subject her to being called holiday for the rest of her life. I blame pregnancy hormones! I came out with some real corkers when pregnant and my dh thought I was losing my mind 😂

TeaMilkNoSugarThanks · 12/03/2020 09:48

If you don't mind people saying, 'Ooer, I expect it was a memorable one for your parents, was it, eh? EH? Honeymoon baby?' Or jokes about Easter/Christmas/Summer holidays.

Holliday is better because it sounds like a family surname being used as a first name. But even so.

batsBATSbatsBATSbats · 12/03/2020 09:48

I think its lovely, actually.

It can be shortened to Holly, Halle, Liddy, Dae..... It's a bit different but not made up.

HopeYouStepOnALego · 12/03/2020 09:49

What a weird choice. She might get called Hollibob or Vaycay for nicknames Grin.

Spied · 12/03/2020 09:51

Holliday is a possibility.
Holiday is not.

MunaZaldrizoti · 12/03/2020 09:57

Jesus. Don't do that to a child.

percheron67 · 12/03/2020 09:59

Great idea! You could name the next one Bank.

HeyHeyWhatever · 12/03/2020 10:04

I think it's lovely! And I'm usually one for a massive eye roll at odd name choices.

First thought was Holliday Grainger too.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 12/03/2020 10:13

I'd sing it at her every time a la Madonna.

Would drive me crazy I think.

PeskyRooks · 12/03/2020 10:22

Holly-May?

Toomboom · 12/03/2020 10:23

Please don't inflict this name on your child. Poor child saddled with this for life with people questioning why their parents chose it.

BoomBoomBoomLetMeHearYouSay · 12/03/2020 10:25

I like it! I would go for the spelling Holliday.

Also Loveday is a similar sort of name.

Panicmode1 · 12/03/2020 10:26

Think of the child. And how cruel children, particularly in secondary school can be. And then choose something else - it's not you having to suffer it.

Isthistrueor · 12/03/2020 10:27

Maybe use it as a middle name and summer could be the first?

DontCallMeShitley · 12/03/2020 10:40

How about Summer Holiday? Anyone who remembers Cliff Richard could sing along.

If you like it why not change your own name to it and see how you get on?

Allthebears · 12/03/2020 10:44

I actually really like it. Spell it Holliday though, like the actress. I think she'll be known as Holly though day to day, so make sure you love that name!

outnumberedmummy · 12/03/2020 10:45

Holliday shortened to Holly could work

ChelseaCat · 12/03/2020 10:47

Not keen at all 😬 sorry OP

PaulinePetrovaPosey · 12/03/2020 11:21

I like it, and I'm usually sceptical about unusual names.
