For a girl. What are your thoughts? Old English in origin.

Good Lord, no.
(Or perhaps Goodlord could be a brother to Loveday.)

ShrekandDonkey · 26/02/2020 19:19

I like it. But then I'm Cornish so sounds normal to me!

HavelockVetinari · 26/02/2020 19:22

Oh yikes, please don't call your poor daughter that! She'll be bullied relentlessly. I know it's wrong to bully, but kids can be very mean indeed.

I generally love literary names, but this one's a no from me, sorry!

SurpriseSparDay · 26/02/2020 19:29

Why would she be bullied?

The youngest member of my family knew the (wholly unfamiliar to the U.K.) names of countless foreign football players before they started Reception. So they were hardly likely to turn a hair over the names of their schoolmates.

Isn’t this ‘they’ll be bullied’ retort rather outdated now?

BestIsWest · 26/02/2020 19:32

I quite like it.

And to PP, yes Loveday Morgan from one of the Ruth Rendell Wexford books.

PointlessAddict · 26/02/2020 19:51

Sweet :) but then I love pretty much all things Cornish!

I'm afraid kids are still kids. It'll be "LoveGAY" or "LoveLAY" or "LovePAY" or similar. I hate to say this, but kid can be really awful Sad

Wonderful name for an Antique Dealer.

whattodo2019 · 26/02/2020 22:41

Very Cornish
I love it

Tillygetsit · 27/02/2020 23:06

I feel as if I should like it but I'm sorry OP I really dont. Can't put my finger on why.

Mallory29 · 01/03/2020 12:19

I love it! I know a Jemima Loveday (middle name) and I think it’s fabulous.

Nowayorhighway · 02/03/2020 17:03

Horrid.

Nope, not keen but it seems to be popular in Cornwall so if you live there then it’s fine.
Where I grew up, it would be a huge no.

ladycarlotta · 02/03/2020 23:22

I think it's lovely. Meg And Mog is dedicated 'to Loveday' and I always think what a cool romantic name it is.

Chocmallows · 02/03/2020 23:27

I can imagine when she says "Loveday" most people will say "no, I meant what's your forename not surname".
Unless you live in Cornwall, then go for it!

BobbyBlueCat · 02/03/2020 23:30

Hideous

boringadvice · 02/03/2020 23:32

I agree with pp that it sounds like a surname, not a fan personally.
