Is anyone called, or know someone in real life called, Lilith?

Hubby and I are expecting a baby girl in a couple of months. We cannot seem to settle on a name.

At the moment we are considering Lilith.

Hubby likes the name, and we've done a fair bit of digging to find out more about the name's origin and meaning. However, hubby is wary about the potential of the name becoming a burden, drawing questions and unwelcome attention, once older.

So, does anyone have the name, or know someone teenaged or older with the name, who is happy to share their own experiences?

Thank you 😁

Knew one I taught once.

Was a while back though. Nice girl.

redexpat · 16/02/2020 19:26

My mums friend is Lilith. Very stoic British sort.

Onceuponatimethen · 16/02/2020 19:26

My only association is Frazier’s nasty ex in Frasier

Never met one

UntamedWisteria · 16/02/2020 19:27

Frasier's ex wife was called Lilith, in the US TV comedy.

She was an uptight intellectual, I guess it depends what sort of woman you'd want your DD to become.

PeppaisaBitch · 16/02/2020 19:27

Doesn't it have devil connections?

Scarletoharaseyebrows · 16/02/2020 19:28

Devil's wife? Certainly an unpleasant character in a Clive Barker novel, Coldheart Canyon. But most people won't make that connection!

PaquitaVariation · 16/02/2020 19:29

I know one five year old Lilith. Parents chose the name deliberately because of the meaning, along with a similar name for her sibling. I think it’s one of those names which most people will think sounds lovely but one or two will raise eyebrows.

pooriver · 16/02/2020 19:29

I think it's lovely.

SleepingStandingUp · 16/02/2020 19:30

Adams first few before being cast out of Eden for not doing a she was told.

Adore the name

GeePipe · 16/02/2020 19:30

Know a 6 month old baby lillith shes utterly gorgeous! Beautiful classic name. Also a jewish legend as lillith was a demon/vampire. So pretty badass whilst sounding quaint Grin

thenightsky · 16/02/2020 19:30

Its a lovely name, but she was a demon in the TV series, Supernatural.

Jellybe4n · 16/02/2020 19:31

Yes, it's the demon connotation that DH is wary of, and how that might impact on someone with the name Hmm

My niece is. I personally don’t like the name but my ds has a name that loads of people on here don’t like so that’s fair enough!

Punkatheart · 16/02/2020 19:31

The name has a fascinating mythology but ultimately she is a demon who destroys babies. It's not the most benign name for a child snd I wouldn't name my chid this. I have never met one and only seen the name used in characters on TV, signifying that they are a malign force in some way as in Frasier (mentioned earlier) and Angel, the Buffy spinoff.

mummyof2ds · 16/02/2020 19:31

My niece is called Lilith

Lailaha · 16/02/2020 19:32

I personally wouldn't choose it because of its origins, but I do know a very nice Lilith: solid, calm, straightforward, pleasant, reliable - just a really nice, relaxed woman. Obviously a sample of one, but I'd never have called a child "Kirsty" based on a sample of one Grin

DesLynamsMoustache · 16/02/2020 19:32

There's been quite a few popular TV series lately with the demonic kind of Lilith so it's instantly what I think of.

ShirleyPhallus · 16/02/2020 19:32

I knew a Lilith and she had the most unfortunate lisp that made her pronounce it “llttthhhhhhh”. Never met one since

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 16/02/2020 19:33

Never met one. My thought is the show Frasier as well!

But I think it's pretty and ripe for a comeback actually!! I think I like Lilith or Lillian better than just Lily which sounds so little girl. I also like Lila.

Lilith sounds sophisticated and regal to me! Its string but still sweet.

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 16/02/2020 19:33

Strong

PeppaisaBitch · 16/02/2020 19:34

It's mentioned as the devils wife in Sabrina. I don't think I'd want a child of mine having that connection but i also don't like the name. Prefer lily.

GeePipe · 16/02/2020 19:34

Also lilith is a really cool character in the game borderlands if conotations and name sakes are being given.

Jellybe4n · 16/02/2020 19:36

See, it's the lived experiences of older children and adults called Lilith that he's after, to check whether it might pose a burden or not.

We've done lots of looking into the origins and meaning of the name, and are comfortable with what we've learnt. It's actually really interesting, and far more complex than first appears!

No!

I loved it but have just looked up the meaning of the name.

Just no!

LindaLyndell · 16/02/2020 19:39

@Paquita
Is the sibling called Lucifer...?
