Star Wars themed Pedme vs Pedimae

Lizadork · 08/02/2020 18:36

Padme (The m has a French accent thing over it)
This is a Star Wars themed name, she is Luke and Leia's mum.

What would others think if I changed Padme to Padimae?
That way it looks more how it is pronounced, is that weird?

Not sure if I should use as a first name, middle name or even at all?

Both weird

Lizadork · 08/02/2020 18:39

Haha spelt wrong in title, it is Padme vs Padimae.

In all honesty I think it's a bit daft - sorry OP. Star Wars-themed names are one thing, but a made up spelling of a Star Wars name is a bit much.

Why not just Mae? Lovely name. Or use Padme is a middle name?

Lizadork · 08/02/2020 18:47

I do dislike Mae on it's own or Mae as a middle name, but like the way it looks with Padimae. It was DP suggestion as he is a star wars nut, I am the one playing with the spelling as an idea. We don't have our hearts set on this name.

I'd say Padimae as "Paddy-May" which I guess isn't what you're going for.

Omashu · 08/02/2020 19:31

I don’t think the I belongs in Padimae. If anything I’d go for Padmae. I think it’s be a lovely middle name! But actually if it’s just the middle name you may as well spell it Padme.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 08/02/2020 19:53

You've not said how they're pronounced therefore. How can we give an opinionConfused

user1493494961 · 08/02/2020 20:23

If you can't spell it right yourself, what hope does anyone else have. Just go with Luke or Leia.

Flissmoon · 08/02/2020 20:27

I like just Padme better.

Padma? Or another SW name, like Amidala, Leia or Rey?

flowery · 08/02/2020 20:28

”What would others think if I changed Padme to Padimae?

No it doesn’t. Confused There’s no ‘i’ sound in Padme.

Pippilsngstrumpf · 08/02/2020 20:34

Padme (The m has a French accent thing over it)

The M?! Do you mean the É?

EL0ISE · 08/02/2020 20:44

Nope.

This is your hormones making you think it’s a good idea. It’s not

Choose a normal name with a Star Wars link. Eg Elle, Finn, Karina, Owen, Jocasta, Max, Riley, Luke, Rae, Paige, Rose

If your BF is a Star Wars nut then let him change his own name to something weird.

SlippersAndThePaper · 08/02/2020 21:00

Not at all. You’re naming an actual person who has to put up with this name for life. Padimae is Paddy-mae. I’m voting for not at all, sorry. At a push a middle name that your child would never admit to having.

A cousin of mine despairs over her middle name which is a tv character. It doesn’t get mentioned.

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 08/02/2020 21:05

My favorite Star Wars mame is Amidala. My grandmother's name is Ama and my grandfather's was Dale so I love how it's a combo of them and a legitimate Italian name but I am not brave enough to use it.

I'm not a lover of Star Wars either so I just don't really get it but I think Padme is kinda cute really. I like the idea of it for a middle name and if you did that you wouldn't have to worry about a phonetic spelling. I personally wouldn't do it for a first name.

bridgetreilly · 08/02/2020 21:53

Padme is okay. Padimae is ridiculous. Padma is lovely.

AlliKaneErikson · 09/02/2020 01:36

I was going to call DD Leia, but I’m kind of glad I didn’t as she has a friend called Anakin and a cousin called Luke! (I do have a Harrison, though, as in Ford!!).
Definitely Padme, not Padime; I don’t see where the ‘I’ comes in?.

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 09/02/2020 03:10

I think people are familiar enough with Star Wars that they would know how to pronounce it if you did use it. I actually really like Padma which was suggested previously!

TinklyLittleLaugh · 09/02/2020 03:13

If you like it, go for it. Sure I read somewhere it means butterfly in Swahili or something.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 09/02/2020 03:15

Just Googled; it means “lotus” in Sanskrit.

noitsachicken · 09/02/2020 03:25

We used to go to a toddler group with a Padme, made me cringe every time.
Use a name with a less obvious link!

EmmaGrundyForPM · 09/02/2020 03:34

Padme is so closely associated with Star Wars that lots of people will judge. We have a cat called Padme and the first time people meet her they always comment on the Star Wars connection and ask who the Star Wars fan is (DS1, who chose her name,).

If you really want a SW name I woul
go for Leia. It's a name in its own right and very pretty.

Please don't do the made up name thing. She really won't thank you for it.

florababy84 · 09/02/2020 03:38

@Lizadork, can you explain why you would put an 'i' in the middle of the name?

Thislittlepiggywentto · 09/02/2020 08:11

The I is awful in the middle. Star wars fan here, quite like Padme. As pp says paddy may will be how people pronounce your suggestion.

Jyn?

BillywilliamV · 09/02/2020 08:14

You shouldn't have a baby until you are grown up really...

SlippersAndThePaper · 09/02/2020 08:17

Jyn

You’d be essentially calling your child Gin.

I wonder why you’d want to give your child a name where they spend the rest of their life saying ‘yes my parents were Star Wars fans’ roll eyes.
