Hi girls!
Struggling so much with girl names, there's barely any I like! After what seemed like forever we both love the name Arla, but after research found out it's a dairy company!😩
So me and OH agreed if this was the name we chose we would spell it Arlagh (no question about it)
So I just want to know if you was introduced to a little girl named Arlagh would you instantly think dairy farm???

Never even crossed my mind about diary !! So what anyway ? It’s a lovely name . Go for it ! But don’t spell it like That, just keep it as Arla

Spied · 01/02/2020 08:52

I really don't like the spelling Arlagh. I probably wouldn't think of dairy but I'd be thinking what an ugly looking name.
If you must...it say go Arla.

Spied · 01/02/2020 08:52

I'd

Spied · 01/02/2020 08:54

Or actually I'd consider adding a 'C' and going Carla.
No issues with dairy and sounds similar.

Nonnymum · 01/02/2020 08:54

I've never heard of the dairy farm if you like Arla just go for it. Even if a dairy farm called Arla exists now it might not when your child has grown up.

bridgetreilly · 01/02/2020 08:58

I would wonder why you've made up a name. And then I would indeed associate it with the dairy company.

bridgetreilly · 01/02/2020 08:59

Arla isn't a dairy farm, it's a huge international dairy company. They make Lurpak and Anchor amongst other products.

userabcname · 01/02/2020 08:59

I wouldn't think of the dairy company. I'd spell it Arla. Arlagh looks as though you let out a strangled scream at the registrar when registering the birth and she wrote down the best approximation of what she heard.

BelfastNonBlonde · 01/02/2020 09:01

I’ve never heard of the dairy company.

BelfastNonBlonde · 01/02/2020 09:05

Don’t like Arlagh. Just looks like a made up version of Orlagh.

tinylittlehat · 01/02/2020 09:10

Yes, I'd think of the dairy company. Definitely use that spelling of you go for it though, I agree with PP that Arlagh looks like aargh.

Alva?

villamariavintrapp · 01/02/2020 09:30

Arla is better than arlagh. Carla? Darla? Marla?

SuziGeo · 01/02/2020 09:32

I don't know of the dairy company so have no association with the name. Also, I don't mind either spelling.

Knobblybobbly · 01/02/2020 09:34

Muller could be a good alternative?

Joking.... I like Arla and don’t associate it with dairy

BigusBumus · 01/02/2020 09:38

Like a pp said there are loads of Floras about!

Call her Arla if you love it just don't use that horrible spelling with the gh.

Ginbauble · 01/02/2020 09:39

I would assume that Arlagh was pronounced Ar-lag.

Arla much better but yes I would think of the dairy products.

How about
Ayla
Alba
Ayda

MontanaSkies · 01/02/2020 09:42

I'd think of milk or yoghurt. Often see the Arla logo on the bottle.

Arlagh looks really ugly, sorry. Reminds me of a cartoon character going "Aaarrgghhh!"

WorldEndingFire · 01/02/2020 09:53

Such vile comments about Irish name spelling, how ignorant.

foxystoatfoxypig · 01/02/2020 10:31

I like Arla. It's on my list too. I do know of the dirt company and regularly see Arla lorries. But I don't care and I still would use the name. Arlagh looks dreadful please don't lump and actual human with that spelling. Just spell it it normal way. Spelling it 'creatively' doesn't change what it is. It just makes it looks silly.

foxystoatfoxypig · 01/02/2020 10:35

WorldEndingFire- oh do shut up! It isn't an Irish name or spelling! The OP has made up you fruit loop!

OP - there is an Orc in some kind of fantasy thing called Arlagh...

forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Arlagh_Deathclaw

Marcipex · 01/02/2020 10:41

Oh dear, an orc name wouldn’t be great.😆

Arla is okay as it is. One wouldn’t write Annagh, Soniagh, Emmagh.

daisypond · 01/02/2020 11:11

Never heard of the dairy company.

Whynosnowyet · 01/02/2020 11:13

Not an anagram of Oral and not after a dairy Co either...
Thousands of names op.....

BobbyBlueCat · 01/02/2020 11:17

@WorldEndingFire so we're only allowed to say that 'English' names sound and/or look horrible if we think that? And we have to love every name from every other country in the World just because they are from that country?

Grow the fuck up.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 01/02/2020 11:20

Yes I would, and If Orla won't fit with your last name the chances are that Arla won't either. After all they're not that different. Think Emilia /Amelia.
