This was my great grandma's name who I had a lovely relationship with when I was little, so the name has always had a special place in my heart. Always thought that one day I'd consider it when I had a baby, and it was so, so rare throughout my whole life until, until lo and behold, I get pregnant and the name is back in fashion! I'm not looking for a name that no one else has, but I'm also not looking for my child to be the next Isla, Olivia, Ava etc. Is Ada heading in that direction? General thoughts on the name?

Looking at its precipitous climb in the last five years, I think it’s precisely the next Isla, I’m afraid.

Great Aunt Ada

bridgetreilly · 29/01/2020 23:14

Yes, but according to that link, even in its most popular year in 2018, only 0.12% of babies were called Ada. That is just over one in a thousand. That's really not very many. It may be more popular in some parts of the country than others, I guess, but even so, it's hardly going to be half the class!

bridgetreilly · 29/01/2020 23:15

811 in the whole country, in fact.

Thanks so much for all of your comments 😊 I think we're both happy with Ada Rose for a girl, but will sit with it over the pregnancy and see if we still love it later on 💕

Some people are so rude!!

I love it OP and I love the special connection to your grandmother.

NoSauce · 30/01/2020 18:59

Some people are so rude!!

The OP asked for opinions on the name (!!)

bluemoon2468 · 30/01/2020 19:11

@NoSauce I did ask for opinions, but I do think that some of the comments are rude. If a name isn't to your personal taste there's a nice way to say it and then a rude way. It's everyone's choice how they want to speak to people online and whether they walk away feeling like a decent person, but I doubt most people would answer like that if someone asked them in person.

@bluemoon2468 I completely agree. You can give your opinion without being rude.

NoSauce · 30/01/2020 19:50

Blimey chill out OP. You’ve posted in Baby Names, people say what they think.

PekTafaa · 30/01/2020 19:52

Love it

EstebanTheMagnificent · 30/01/2020 19:52

If it’s important to you that the name isn’t too popular then you might want to reconsider Rose as a middle name. It marks a name out as being very 2010s and is everywhere.

bluemoon2468 · 30/01/2020 20:03

@EstebanTheMagnificent Rose is DH's grandma's name who passed away a couple of months ago.

@NoSauce yep, as I said it's up to each person how they choose to talk to other people 😊

It’s a beautiful name, OP. You just mentioned that you didn’t want a very zeitgeisty name so it was worth mentioning.

Incidentally, Rose is not that common as a first name. Rose Ada would be very pretty.

Whatsyourflava · 30/01/2020 20:24

I adore Ada @bluemoon2468 so glad you’re thinking of sticking with it ❤️

bluemoon2468 · 30/01/2020 20:25

@EstebanTheMagnificent I would actually love the name that way round, DH is not as keen unfortunately 😔

DramaAlpaca · 30/01/2020 22:46

Ada is one of the few 'granny chic' names that I like, so it's a thumbs up from me.

Whatsyourflava · 31/01/2020 13:03

Gorgeous name- do you have a boy name picked @bluemoon2468 or do you know it’s a girl

bluemoon2468 · 31/01/2020 13:43

Yes, our boys name is Franklin Charles - more definite with that one. Have had it picked out since long before we were expecting 🙈

Beautiful name, but it is popular though! We are in South Yorkshire and there are 3 in my daughter year group and one in my sons xxx

Lobsterquadrille2 · 31/01/2020 14:06

Beautiful name, OP. I proof read a book a few years ago about Ada Lovelace and hadn't heard of anyone with the name - actually, I still haven't, but it seems to be quietly popular now.

SallyWD · 31/01/2020 14:09

I don't know any Adas and until recently I worked in a school. I also know most of the names in my children's primary school.

SallyWD · 31/01/2020 14:09

Ida is another option and far less popular.
