Freddie

Abitofanexpert · 27/01/2020 06:42

Freddy is nice. Reggie is awful, really horrible sounding with terrible connotations.

Andrew is the nicest of all, personally I don't see anything wrong with Andy but I love Drew. I think that is gorgeous. Could that work?

Poppydaisies · 27/01/2020 07:19

They are both awful!

I do like Andrew and Frederick. Not so keen on Reginald but it's better than Reggie.

Poppydaisies · 27/01/2020 07:21

I don't like either as they're ugly sounding and cutesy at the same time.

dancebabydance · 27/01/2020 07:22

Ignore all the people saying it's too cutesy for an adult and he needs a proper name on his birth certificate, you call him what you want!

I like both but I love Freddie and was on our shortlist for a boy!

BlueEyedFloozy · 27/01/2020 07:28

Freddie.

My first thought was Mercury and that's not a bad association at all! I wouldn't be so sure it won't get shortened though - I know 4 with 2 being in their teens who ended up as Fred as soon as they hit secondary for some reason 🤔

Frederick Andrew looks and sounds better than Freddie Andrew but I don't like Frederick myself.

ArchMemory · 27/01/2020 07:30

Reggie just makes me think of Reggie Kray. Sorry.

Grufallosfriends · 27/01/2020 07:51

I'm afraid I dislike both. I feel this trend for cutesy names is coming to an end such names may well start to sound 'dated' in a few years.

I do like Frederick. And quite like Andrew.

Is Reggie traditionally short for Reginald? I'm not so keen on that.

Jesskir89 · 27/01/2020 10:35

@dancebabydance thank you. I don't expect everyone to like the names I like but it wasn't the purpose of the thread. My boy will be a reggie or freddie :) @blueyedfloozy I'm not keen on Frederick myself either. Thanks for your input ladies

Gosh a bit shocked about some of the replies!

I really love Freddie and would use that!

All these people calling Freddie a “baby name”?!? I’m a bit confused and shocked. How about Mercury and Flintoff? 🤦‍♀️

Whatsyourflava · 27/01/2020 10:54

Freddie is gorgeous and you’re totally right he can always have Fred if he prefers when older

TobyeBella · 27/01/2020 10:55

Out of the two, Freddie definitely.

How about Wilfred as a full name for the birth certificate?

Sandsnake · 27/01/2020 10:58

Definitely Freddie! I just don’t get the recent popularity of Reggie.

I’m another who would vote for Fredrick on the birth certificate, but understand you’re not asking that Wink. Best of luck with your DS!

SP8849 · 27/01/2020 10:59

SP8849 · 27/01/2020 11:01

@Sandsnake I agree! Fredrick on the birth certificate, then known as Freddie.

We wanted to call my son Teddy but we put his name as Edward on his birth certificate. Everyone calls him/ knows him as Ted. Purely, as when he’s older he can choose what he wants to be called.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 27/01/2020 11:03

Freddie is much nicer and more unusual... There are so too many Reggies now! Agree with a PP about Andrew and possible diminutive of Drew, though, that's lovely

Jesskir89 · 27/01/2020 11:06

Thanks ladies. I think freddie is the most popular choice which I love. @sp8849 I love Ted and Teddy but its my brothers name who is also Edward on birth certificate :)

blondie87 · 27/01/2020 11:11

Freddie is gorgeous! Would definitely choose that out for the two.

user1493494961 · 27/01/2020 11:21

It depends whether you prefer Reg or Fred, as this is what they are likely to become. I know a teenage Freddie whose mates call him Fred (his Mother hates it.)

NewName54321 · 27/01/2020 11:23

Andrew is much nicer as a first name. You don't have to give him a nickname, or one could develop that's not a shortened version of his first name (good example already given of Freddie Flintoff).

If you do put Andrew as the middle name, with a vowel for the middle initial, do check what his initials spell (FAG, RAT, etc.) as it might be somewhat worse than being called Andy.

Jesskir89 · 27/01/2020 12:32

@newname54321 you've made a very good point and 1 thing I've been thinking if we go with freddie his initials will be FAK so may give him 2 middle names to break it up. We did consided reggie Andrew Thomas but that spells RAT

undercoverhero74 · 27/01/2020 12:39

I have a Freddie, it's such a lovely name. He is Frederick on the birth certificate but everyone calls him Fred/Freddie. I initially hated the idea of anyone calling him Fred but it really really suits him now.
Reggie is a bit meh in my opinion but it's amazing how a personality can really change a name. Either one you pick I'm sure it will be perfect for your LO

FizzyGreenWater · 27/01/2020 12:57

Freddie is nice, but it does seem so much less good if you know that's the full name - just seems a bit silly and babyish.

Reggie is not nice at all. Much harsher.

BrunoLovesMe · 27/01/2020 13:02

I prefer Freddie Smile

Frank is a super cool name too Wink

sel2223 · 27/01/2020 13:04

Gosh, some people on here are so rude with their replies!

If you like the names then that's all that matters OP! Personally, I prefer Freddie but Reggie is definitely gaining in popularity too.
