Twin Boys Names - Picked. Do they go with middle names

Hi All,

Have twin boys baking away due May 1st.

We have chosen, Alexander & Owen.

But we wanted to continue the names of our fathers for their middle names. John & Paul, the question is:

Alexander John
Owen Paul

or ...

Owen John
Alexander Paul

Beautiful names. I don't think the order makes much difference, they both work. If I had to choose I'd probably go for
Alexander John
Owen Paul

FizzyGreenWater · 22/01/2020 10:23

Ok for Alexander but a real feeling that Owen is drawing the short straw big time!

Alexander John sounds classic and flows well.

Owen Paul sounds dated and boring!

If it HAS to be Owen, I'd give him the more classic John as a mn.

FizzyGreenWater · 22/01/2020 10:25

Oh sorry I misread, thought that AJ/OP were your first choices.

In that case, the second option definitely.

FlaskMaster · 22/01/2020 10:27

I also think Alexander/Alex is a much nicer name than Owen. Maybe give Owen John as a middle name so he can be known as OJ if he wants to more modern name.

KittenMittens1 · 22/01/2020 10:50

We're not changing the names its just order,

As if people don't like Owen, its a lovely welsh name, So much better than the thousands of Archie's, Noah's, and Greyson's that are about now a days.

Tried picking a name thats lovely while their little, but great for when they are older and applying for jobs.

Lovely classic names. I don't think the order matters. I like that they're not matchy and that they include family names Smile

NoSauce · 22/01/2020 11:20

I’m not a fan of Owen either.

I would have Alexander and John.

KittenVsBox · 22/01/2020 11:29

Is John a John, or a Jonathan as a full name?

I'd do Owen Jonathan and Alexander Paul, or Owen John if Jonathan isnt the name of a grandfather.

Whatsyourflava · 22/01/2020 11:45

I quite like the nickname “OJ” (I think it’s been long enough to make a comeback now?)

Whatsyourflava · 22/01/2020 11:46

I suppose Owen John sounds a bit similar to owen Jones if that bothers you. I really like Owen Jones so it wouldn’t bother m but I know lots on MN seem to detest him

Mamabear88 · 22/01/2020 12:09

Owen is a really nice name. Plus Alexander will most likely get shortened to Alex and Alex and Owen sound good together. AS for the middle names, either way works but i'd go Alex John and Owen Paul if it were me.

Mamabear88 · 22/01/2020 12:23

Forgot to say, my best friend is called Owen and he's a twin! Brother is Connor.

MrsBertBibby · 22/01/2020 16:16

Good names, and fine either way but I think Owen John and Alexander Paul. Unless your final initial makes those spell something daft.

EssentialHummus · 22/01/2020 16:22

Alexander John
Owen Paul

gets my vote. I love Owen!

IVflytrap · 22/01/2020 22:05

Alexander John and Owen Paul go best, imo.

Haffdonga · 22/01/2020 22:20

Alexander John
Owen Paul

Better balanced that way round and it shares out the A's and O's better.

(Amazing how many people comment on your name choices critically despite you saying very clearly that the names are chosen. I love them Smile)

ladycarlotta · 22/01/2020 23:01

I think either combination is fine, although Owen is another form of John so it might be a bit weird to have two names with the same meaning? That is total pedantry though.

Both lovely names and go well together, not that you asked for my or anyone's opinion on that!

Cindie943811A · 22/01/2020 23:03

Great choices. Alexander John and Owen Paul would be my preference.

JaneDarcy · 22/01/2020 23:07

Agree with ladyCarlotta Owen and John are the same name!

Swinesinsleepingbags · 22/01/2020 23:14

Totally OP is a phrase I hear a lot at my school in relation to computer games meaing over powered and OJ is what they call orange juice I guess neither is horrid

spiderlight · 23/01/2020 12:55

Owen Paul was a singer in the 80s. I agree that Alexander John and Owen Paul flow best though.

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 23/01/2020 12:59

I was going to say it has to be Alexander John and Owen Paul because Owen and John are essentially the same name but it seems others got there first.

Whynosnowyet · 23/01/2020 12:59

Ds's dgf and dggf were John. I used Jonathan for middle name instead.
Owen Jonathan
Alexander Paul.

MikeUniformMike · 23/01/2020 13:39

John and Jonathan aren't the same name, but both are nice.

Most of the welsh forms of John - Ioan, Ifan, Iwan etc- are vowel heavy (w is a vowel in Welsh). Siôn is nice but might be a bit dated.

Which way round do they sound best with the surname, and which initials are ok?
If your surname is Simpson you might want tho avoid the initials OJ.

Whynosnowyet · 23/01/2020 13:41

Ds's nanna was chuffed and that kept her sweet!!
