Oh and he has Edwin and Dennis as middle names (maternal grandfather names)

GrannyBags · 14/01/2020 16:27

I have a Matthew Jacob
He is 11 and it is never shortened to Matt, not even by his mates.

Skyejuly · 14/01/2020 16:27

I have never heard anyone say maffew

PeaBea · 14/01/2020 16:35

It's a classic but that doesn't make it a fave of mine, I'm afraid. 'Matt' is inevitable - if not now, when he's an independent adult - and that (or 'mat') is something one wipes their feet on.

GrannyBags · 14/01/2020 20:19

@Skyejuly My Matthew was Mafu as a baby because his cousin couldn’t say Matthew. He still calls him Maff sometimes.

Matthew is on my list too!
I know a Matthew who goes by Matty which I personally prefer to Matt!
Matthew Christopher is lovely!

lljkk · 14/01/2020 20:44

I work with at least 4. None of them prefer to go by Matthew, they all like Mat(t).

BabyMoonPie · 14/01/2020 20:54

Love it - classic and strong, easy to spell and pronounce. We didn't know our baby's sex and Matthew was our boy name

Skyejuly · 14/01/2020 20:58

We say math too !

emilybrontescorsett · 14/01/2020 21:01

I love it.

HalleLouja · 14/01/2020 21:07

My dd would have been a Matthew if she was a boy. Good name.

mondler · 14/01/2020 22:37

I love it, we almost went with it but ended up using another M name instead. Middle name would have been Jonah. I think the only thing that made us choose the other name over Matthew is that we already know so many Matthews.

Sittingonthefenceagain · 15/01/2020 01:08

Thank you all. Some great suggestions for middle names ,I particularly like Jonah , George or James.

One of my favourites and I like the short form Matt too (I don't think I like Matty, but I've never met anyone who goes by Matty so I can't imagine it happening spontaneously). I agree Matthew James sounds good, and I also like Matthew William.

newtothis20 · 04/02/2020 21:19

Matthew James is lovely!

Lmes · 05/02/2020 23:10

I have a Matthew Dylan . Almost 18 years old and we call him Matthew . School friends call him Matty or Matt chew 😩 . It’s a lovely classic name 💙

ClappyFlappy · 05/02/2020 23:14

I always think of Matthews as being kind, gentle and intelligent

My Matthew is just like this :)

And it’s never shortened to Matt, but if he chooses that when he’s older, it’s his name, he can do what he wants with it.

His middle name is Thomas.

Astronica · 06/02/2020 01:38

A good traditional name, I like it.
I like Matthew George best from your preferences so far. Every second boy has James as a middle name so I'd avoid it, very much the default middle.
Matthew Richard
Matthew Douglas
Matthew Edward
Matthew Jonathan
Matthew Thomas
Matthew Ellis
Matthew Flynn

Whatsyourflava · 06/02/2020 19:01

Great solid choice

HelenaJustina · 06/02/2020 19:08

Love it. Solid classic

Istillgetjealous · 06/02/2020 19:11

Love Matthew.
I’ve never met a Matthew I didn’t like so to me it’s got really positive connotations.

finallychangedmyusername · 06/02/2020 20:40

I always wanted to call a DS Matthew... And then I married one instead! Great name. Matthew Jonah is particularly nice.

Matthew Asher
Matthew Douglas
Matthew Everett
Matthew Ellis
