Juniper!

I've always had a soft spot for this name, and amazingly it is now on DP's and my agreed shortlist - although it's not his favourite.
Is it just too...nippy? I think it's got a great sound to it, and good shortenings. (I never thought choosing names would be this hard.)
For interest, other names on list:
Freya
Lilias
Theadora
Ada

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

It’s lovely. Nothing wrong with the gin association either! I’m also sure Theodora is spelt this way rather than Theadora?

HeronLanyon · 11/01/2020 23:34

Juniper - almost certain to become June ?? I like June. Hugely underused now I think. Less find if juniper. Like your other names.

FramingDevice · 11/01/2020 23:36

It sounds way too banal and ingredient-y to me. Like calling a child Cornflour or Onion or Tomato Purée

FramingDevice · 11/01/2020 23:36

Of your other names, I like Ada.

CassandrasCastle · 12/01/2020 00:07

@BuffaloCauliflower You're right, I meant Theodora! Typo 🙈

Have you Googled it? I only ask because I LOVED Juniper - it was my DDs name for a while before she was born, we were so sure that we almost started telling people when they asked. But then I Googled it. And one women said that she had asked a friend their opinions and they’d said it sounds like:

Jew-nipper (noun). One who bites Jewish people.

And it put me right off. Sad

partofyoupoursoutofme · 12/01/2020 18:05

Love juniper! Your other choices are lovely too, but I know several babies of each (North West and London) so my perspective is that they are getting more popular. I would choose juniper in a heartbeat.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 12/01/2020 18:08

Love juniper.

I’d love to be called Juniper.

sel2223 · 12/01/2020 18:23

Not a fan of juniper I'm afraid but freya and thea are lovely

CassandrasCastle · 12/01/2020 18:38

I think it's now between Juniper and Ada

OP posts:
CassandrasCastle · 12/01/2020 19:27

And Freya.. 🙈

Astronica · 13/01/2020 07:50

I really like Juniper and it's my favourite from your list. 2nd choice Ada.

Keepmewarm · 13/01/2020 07:53

I love all of your names!
Of your final three I would order favourite to least favourite:
Juniper
Freya
Ada

Juniper is absolutely beautiful

Loopyloopy1 · 13/01/2020 07:56

Love Juniper and Theadora!

Never liked Ada.

Go for Juniper - she could be Juni for short. Beautiful.

ElsieBobo · 13/01/2020 07:56

I love it!

CassandrasCastle · 13/01/2020 11:36

My heart wants Juniper!! (Cringe..) But Ada, Freya and Thea feel like safer options, and still lovely imo :s

There is one other thing...I had alcohol problems in my youth and have been sober for quite a few years now. Most people aren't really aware of this, but I do wonder if that just makes the gin link extra weird, and if I'll get slightly tired of it.. Wine

OP posts:
Loopyloopy1 · 13/01/2020 18:21

I don’t think so (gin link), OP!

Go for whatever you love now. You never go off your child’s name once it’s theirs, because it becomes “them”.

I live in N London, and Juniper wouldn’t be an unusual choice here at all.

(And a PP said I agree - I think it is spelled Theodora, not Theadora. If you went for this name, she could be Teddy, Thea or Dora. So sweet!)

BarleyG · 13/01/2020 19:25

I wouldn’t use Juniper myself but I really love it. Theodora I also love - I suggested it but it was veto-ed sadly

AlpacaGoodnight · 13/01/2020 20:21

Love love love Juniper!

DrivingMsCrazy · 14/01/2020 11:23

Well if you have 3 names OP that's a fab shortlist so why not just wait until baby is born and see which of the 3 suits her best? I know heaps of folk who had "decided" on a name then changed it once they saw their new little person.

NoSauce · 14/01/2020 11:59

It’s ok, a million times better than Ada.

CassandrasCastle · 14/01/2020 13:28

Yep, I know you're not an Ada fan @NoSauce... Grin

formerbabe · 14/01/2020 18:15

I'm surprised so many people say they like it. It's unbearably hipster. I'd cringe so much if I heard the name irl.

PixieDustt · 14/01/2020 18:26

I love Juniper 🥰
