Feeling too low to name baby

Ahhhmythirddecade · 03/01/2020 20:09

Expecting DC2 and suffering from low mood.

We did have a name picked out but now I feel really meh about it and DC1s name is constantly being misspelt by DHs cousins and it only has 5 letters in it so the name we chosen for DC2 would be too complicated to spell. (It’s not uncommon at all)

DH wants to go ahead with the name but I’ve gone off it. We can’t agree on another name.

I’m only 20 weeks so loads of time but I had hoped maybe thinking of names would get me excited or cheer me up but now I’m feeling more deflated

It would be a shame to give up on the name you both like, just because someone else can't spell. Would you regret it, do you think?

Roxingaroundtheworld · 03/01/2020 20:33

Some people can’t spell my kids’ names, it doesn’t bother me. Don’t change a name you love

SailorBee · 03/01/2020 20:46

My daughter’s name is often misspelt (it is quite unusual, but only 5 letters). I feel your pain, but I still love her name.

Do you want to share the name you’ve chosen and/or the type of names you like so we can give some more suggestions to inspire you a bit?

Ahhhmythirddecade · 03/01/2020 20:56

We had originally agreed on Francesca (although we’d call her Frankie for short) but now I’m meh about it

Love Francesca! It’s a beautiful name Halo

Wolfiefan · 03/01/2020 21:00

I love that too!
I’m so sorry you’re feeling so rotten. Have you told your MW?

MopsRUs · 03/01/2020 21:03

Love Frankie as nickname for Francesca. It reminds me of Frankincense.

DaisyCutie3 · 03/01/2020 21:05

I’m sorry you’re feeling low :(
What if you made a list of some names you might want to give your daughter, putting aside everyone else’s feelings and opinions. Even if the names seem really out there, you will be listening to yourself and tuning out all the outside chatter.

Eeeeek2 · 03/01/2020 21:06

Beautiful name.

How about narrowing it down to a shortlist rather than pick a name, that way there is less pressure on it being perfect whilst you're feeling down.

Please tell your midwife how you're feeling so they can offer and support they can.

mumwon · 03/01/2020 21:08

we didn't agree on ds to several days after he was born!

MrsTerryPratchett · 03/01/2020 21:08

I love Francesca. And there's a brilliant Australian journalist covering the fires with that name so good stock!

MikeUniformMike · 03/01/2020 21:12

Francesca is fine.
Don't worry about people misspelling the names, some people just can't spell.
I appreciate that it might be annoying.
FWIW, my mother's best friend never spells her name right and it's a really simple, ordinary name, and they've known each other for over 50 years.

Keepmewarm · 03/01/2020 21:16

My daughters name is a really common name and still gets spelt wrong. Think Daisy/Daisie.

Francesca is gorgeous.
I hope you feel slightly less low soon.

TheQueensCousin · 03/01/2020 21:17

Francesca is a gorgeous name and don't worry my father couldn't even spell my name correctly!

sugarisbitter · 03/01/2020 21:19

Ds was born in February and I didn't confirm his name or do his birth certificate until April.
It felt like such pressure, and then the spelling of the name was making it all to much with to many family members telling me what they liked and didn't.
It's perfect now and he suits it very well.
You know when you know so don't worry.
Plus you can change it up til a year Wink

17caterpillars1mouse · 03/01/2020 21:19

Francesca is a beautiful name, and well known. It was on our list for dd2. I like Frankie, prefer Cesca.

Whatsyourflava · 03/01/2020 21:22

So sorry you’re feeling low

I actually don’t like Francesca or Frankie but who cares what I think @Ahhhmythirddecade

Have you got any alternatives? If you haven’t really got any alternatives in your head then I’d definitely just stick with jt

DingDongMerrilyOnThigh · 03/01/2020 21:24

ThanksFrancesca/Frankie is a good name/NN pair - if the cousins can't spell it (bearing in mind presumably they're getting older and capable of learning anyway?) does it really matter? But are there some other names you were thinking of, MN is pretty good at finding similar but different ones.

Ahhhmythirddecade · 03/01/2020 21:26

Thanks all.

I’m worried that I’ll link her name with this low period if we do stick with that name.

I had given DH a list of names I had liked but he’s vetoed them all. He only wants Francesca. He also likes two other names which I don’t like so 🤷‍♀️

milliefiori · 03/01/2020 21:27

Francesca/Frankie are gorgeous names. But you don't need to decide now. See how you feel once the baby is born. A friend changed her DD's name after six months because it felt wrong.

AntimonySalts · 03/01/2020 21:29

Francesca is a gorgeous name, OP. Don't be put off by the fact that some idiots can't spell. There are people on here who probably can't spell their own names, never mind anyone else's.

CuckooCachoo · 03/01/2020 21:39

I love Francesca!

How about Saskia or Susannah?

Katfood · 03/01/2020 21:39

Francesca is beautiful.

I know one with nickname Franci.

NoSauce · 03/01/2020 23:59

Wait a while. You’ve got time OP. Hope you feel better soon.

MrsTerryPratchett · 04/01/2020 00:06

Let's hear the other names!

And you will just associate the name with her.
