Twins - Annie & Darla

Ellecrawford · 31/12/2019 15:46

DH and myself have agreed that one twin is definitely going to have the name Annie. I love it now and it was DH great grans name. I like Darla for other twin and so does DH but he also loves Hattie - (which I love but Annie and Hattie rhyme so is that unfair?)

Anyways; we're struggling with what kind of name to put with Annie😩 please leave suggestions for us... x

A girl at my DC school is called Kayla and I think that would go well with Annie. I do think different sounding names would be lovely for twins. Congratulations!

AndAnotherNameChanger · 31/12/2019 16:33

I'd go with something quite traditional. For me Darla sounds more modern, but Hattie, when combined with Annie sounds a bit too twee.

How about
Felicity
Eva
Lucy
Sophie
Eleanor
Florence
Rhea
Isabelle
Martha
Olivia
Paige
Rachel
Dorothy
Sarah
Sasha

DivGirl · 31/12/2019 17:21

Prefer Hattie to Darla - I've only ever met dogs called Darla.

daisypond · 31/12/2019 17:22

Why not call her Harriet?

Letthemysterybe · 31/12/2019 17:28

I’m not a fan of Darla. But I agree it sounds better not to have both names ending in a “ee’ sound.

What about:

Clara
Tabitha
Tessa
Lydia

PrincessLouis · 31/12/2019 17:39

Annie has a nice vintage feel as does Hattie so that works for me. If you don’t want two ‘ee’ endings how about a vintage vibe name with a different ending eg Rose, Ida, Ellen? Don’t like Darla - have never heard that one before so doesn’t go with the classic / vintage tone of Annie to my ear. Good luck Flowers

Dislike Darla, agree with pp, it doesn't go with Annie and sounds a bit made-up. Annie and Hattie are OK together.

Poorolddaddypig · 31/12/2019 18:34

I don’t like Darla but Annie is amazing and goes well with something a bit more vintage like Rose or Eliza or Nancy or Betsy or Sadie or even Hattie although you’re right that they’re a little samey, they’re still lovely!

Bezalelle · 31/12/2019 18:42

Hattie is such a stuck up name. Darla is gorgeous.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 31/12/2019 18:43

I like Hattie - may be biased there Wink but think twin names have to be distinct.

My Hattie's twin has a bold name ending with an "icks" sound so very different.

I think it helps them learn their own names and develop an identity. I taught id girl twins called Veronica and Victoria and tbh it made it even more difficult to tell them apart so I would go with distinctly different names.

Why not Annie and Harriet as a pp suggested? That is my Hattie's proper name.

MopsRUs · 31/12/2019 19:19

Not keen on Darla - as others say, it's more modern and doesn't really fit with Annie. Hattie is nice, but too matchy with Annie.

Annie and....

Holly
Elsie
Louisa
Ruby
Clara
Georgia
Serena
Katie
Julia
Heidi
Lucy

diddlediddle · 31/12/2019 19:34

Annie and Darla sound nice together

BecauseReasons · 31/12/2019 19:37

I think Hattie and Annie work, but if you're worried about the ie ending you could go with 'Harriet' shortened to Hattie, or 'Anne/Anna/Annabelle/Annalise/any of the other million names that start with or include Ann' and Hattie. Or any combination of the above.

ScarletPower · 31/12/2019 19:55

Hattie and Annie sound very cute together.

I haven't heard of Darla before, I like the sound of it, but I have always loved Della.

daisypond · 31/12/2019 20:22

I don’t think Darla works very well. It’s so associated with the horrid girl in Finding Nemo, and is sometimes a fancy dress character too.

applekisses · 31/12/2019 22:04

Annie and Lizzie (Elizabeth)

Tillygetsit · 01/01/2020 01:48

I love Darla. There's something very 1920s about it to me and as it's now 2020 I think it's genius. Love Annie too.

MiniGuinness · 01/01/2020 01:51

Darla! What a cool name! Sounds like Darling which is just lovely. Yes they totally go together. Hattie is so insipid, don’t cave OP, Darla is strong and cool.

lemonadeparade · 01/01/2020 01:54

I love the name Violet. I think it's timeless and pretty, just like Annie Smile

Ellecrawford · 01/01/2020 02:00

I'd really want the name to have 2 syllables like Annie .. thanks so much for suggestions! Love Heidi but it's the same with the 'ee' sounds😩 but despite that I'm still loving Hattie! Such a hard decision💗

Annie and Darla make a gorgeous combination! Absolutely love both names.

What is your gut feeling on this OP?

Astronica · 01/01/2020 02:33

I love Annie and find Darla fresh and interesting. As a pairing it works fine. I agree with you OP about not having 2 'ie' ending names as it's a bit matchy (BTW Annie and Hattie don't rhyme - Annie and Hannie rhyme - but they do share the 'a' sound and 'ie' ending so a bit too matchy.)

While my first choice may be another vintage feel 2 syllable name not ending in 'ie' such as Ida, Violet, Mabel, Iris, Willa, Flora, or one syllable like Rose, May, Fleur, Grace - I do think Darla works. I think Darla is a name that may grow on people, and I do like the hint of the word darling which is very sweet.

Whoops75 · 01/01/2020 02:38

Love those manes

Also love Daphne if Darla isn’t he one.

TooleyVanDooley · 01/01/2020 02:48

I’ve been saying for years that Daphne is due a comeback. Hasn’t happened yet though ...

Poorolddaddypig · 01/01/2020 06:54

Hettie? Betty? Kitty?
