Twins - Annie & Darla

Ellecrawford · 31/12/2019 15:46

DH and myself have agreed that one twin is definitely going to have the name Annie. I love it now and it was DH great grans name. I like Darla for other twin and so does DH but he also loves Hattie - (which I love but Annie and Hattie rhyme so is that unfair?)

Anyways; we're struggling with what kind of name to put with Annie😩 please leave suggestions for us... x

Annie and Flora

Annie and Tara? Sounds a bit like Darla but more traditional.

EoinMcLovesCakeJumper · 01/01/2020 10:25

I like Darla - although it's the name of an MTV cartoon character so you might want to look that up and see if it's an association you like. Personally I think she's cool...

Otherwise, Tara is nice as a pp suggested, or how about Laura or Lorna?

EoinMcLovesCakeJumper · 01/01/2020 10:27

Please ignore my first paragraph, the cartoon character is called Daria, not Darla. I still like Darla though!

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 01/01/2020 10:31

Like some others I really don't like Darla. But there are loads of lovely 2 syllable names that don't end in ie.

Clara
Lara
Laura
Sarah
Sara
Margot
Greta
Shula
Leila
Sonya
Dora
Maura
Stella

squee123 · 01/01/2020 11:06

I would avoid Clara, it's a lovely name but lends itself too much to Annie and Clarabelle Grin

@EoinMcLovesCakeJumper

I like Darla - although it's the name of an MTV cartoon character so you might want to look that up and see if it's an association you like.

Isn't that Daria?

EoinMcLovesCakeJumper · 01/01/2020 12:10

I know, I corrected myself in my next post. I don't have an excuse, I'm not even hungover. I was asleep by 11pm last night!

BecauseReasons · 01/01/2020 12:12

Sorry, missed that somehow!

MikeUniformMike · 01/01/2020 12:33

Annie and Hattie are both nice. Not keen on Darla.

Why not have Anne and Harriet on the BCs and use the nns.

OhMyGiddyAunty · 01/01/2020 13:02

I think Darla is the evil child in Finding Nemo.

Annabel (for example) plus Harriet nn Annie and Hattie are great, but the shortened versions only are a bit too cutsie for my taste.

However, OP, if you love them both then you should use them both! You'll never get universal approval! Smile

17caterpillars1mouse · 03/01/2020 19:41

I love Darla. I don't imagine it's popular on here though.

It's heard of, but unusual, a it quirky. I think it's fabulous. I like Annie too though prefer it as a nn. For me it would be Annabel and Darla or Anneliese and Darla

SkeletonSkins · 03/01/2020 19:43

Annie and Alice! Similar but different.

MyNewBearTotoro · 03/01/2020 19:49

I think both Annie and Darla and Annie and Hattie are fine together.

I don’t think twin names have to be similar and whilst I don’t think ‘matchy’ names are great either Annie and Hattie are different enough - I wouldn’t think you were trying to match with those names.

I would just choose 2 names you love and I wouldn’t worry about whether they go together - your twins will be individuals and beyond the early years won’t always be referred to together or come as a pair so there’s no need to overthink how they sound together.

Bananablueberry · 03/01/2020 19:52

Annie and Molly?

Annie and Hattie sound too matchy

Aibuornotoop · 03/01/2020 19:53

Annie and Hattie reminds me of Annie and Hallie like the twins on Parent Trap

passthebucky · 03/01/2020 19:56

Edie
Rosie
Lilly
Henrietta nn hetty

Ikeameatballs · 03/01/2020 19:58

I like Annie, Hattie and Darla individually but I wouldn’t put them together in sisters or twins.

I like Annie and

Lucy
Lizzie (Annabelle and Elizabeth)
Jean
Martha
Polly
Pearl
Cora

partofyoupoursoutofme · 04/01/2020 09:07

Love Annie and Darla, they work beautifully together and sound sophisticated instead of cutesie. Agree with pp that there's a 1920s ring to it which is cool in a timeless way instead of a trendy way.

GertiMJN · 04/01/2020 09:17

I'm with your dh and pps, not keen on Dara and it feels like a different sort of name to Annie.

Annie and Clara
Annie and Martha
Annie and Cora
Annie and Flora
Annie and Norah

RustyBear · 04/01/2020 09:21

For me, Darla is the vampire in Buffy that turned Angel.
How about Carla?

Chocolatecake12 · 04/01/2020 09:24

Go with what you love. Don’t choose a name that you will regret and wish you’d gone with your favourite.
Yes Annie and Hattie are lovely together and yes they have the same ending BUT they will not be together forever! It’s only through childhood until they’re about 11, then they’ll develop their own friendship groups, they’ll grow up to have different jobs and live independently from each other and will be just Annie or just Hattie.

TatianaLarina · 04/01/2020 10:56

Don’t like Darla at all. Like Martha though and Cara and Zara.

Annie is pretty if twee but I think Hattie really is just a nickname. Why not call her Harriet, then she has a choice of nn.

Wallabyone · 04/01/2020 11:34

How about Beatrice or Beatrix? I like the shortening Trixie with the second, and although it is still an ee sound it is quite different to Annie.

DickDewy · 04/01/2020 11:39

My cousin in the US has twins named Annie and Cecilia (Cece), which I think is a lovely combination.
