Looking for a name for our baby boy due in the new year and have just come across the name Jonas. I'm really loving it but am looking for some opinions? Other name suggestions welcome...am looking for a name that isn't very common but isn't absurdly 'out there'! Thanks in advance! x

Yes it’s a lovely name! I have an American friend named Jonas. It’s mostly well know though from the Jonas brothers but of course with them it was their last name. It’s a great name though.

Omashu · 10/12/2019 15:07

It is* their last name I should say.

CandyApple1995 · 10/12/2019 15:08

Love it x

CalmFizz · 10/12/2019 15:08

Everyone will think you’re big into the jonas brothers.

Hollygaggles · 10/12/2019 15:11

I think it's a nice name. It's familiar to me, as my DH is Swedish.

MadameSapphire · 10/12/2019 15:17

Thanks for the thoughts so far! I'm afraid I can't even name one Jonas Brothers song!

Hollygaggles, our family has Scandinavian heritage and that's one of the reasons I like it. :-) We're in the UK, though, so would pronounce it 'Jo-nas' as opposed to 'Yo-nas'. x

One of my friends has a son called Jonas - unusual but not completely out there.

Makes me immediately think of Jonas Blue. I like it

Bluerussian · 10/12/2019 17:49

A very good name. It's Hebrew meaning: Dove; peaceful being, accomplishing and other positive things.

This is the definition from the Urban Dictionary: Jonas is the guy that loves to have the spotlight. He is usually the favorite guy from his group of friends. He'll always stand up for his friends because they mean a lot to him. He has a great sense of fashion, humbly athletic, can dance, play instruments, all equal to a man of romance.

Don't let this fool you. He may hide some of these things underneath his ego. He's actually smart but acts like the complete opposite sometimes.

Still he's a one of a kind type of guy. Cute, smart, confident, hardworking, passionate, determined, etc. One glance, one conversation, and you'll never forget him.
.......
Sounds good to me, go for it.

Very nice.

Great name, particularly IMO as you have the Scandinavian heritage.

Cbeebiesrehab · 10/12/2019 19:48

Lovely name, not so keen on the diminutive Joe though

BuffaloCauliflower · 10/12/2019 19:50

I definitely thought of the Jonas brothers first! I actually quite like it though.

Lipperfromchipper · 10/12/2019 19:57

Jonah is great too!

BrandoraPaithwaite · 10/12/2019 20:00

What about Jonah, Jago or Joby?

WoodliceInSunderland · 10/12/2019 20:40

Don't go with Joby if you ever want to visit Scotland!

WoodliceInSunderland · 10/12/2019 20:41

(Jobby means poo)

BarleyG · 10/12/2019 21:40

I really like it, and I never like any boys’ names!
