Isobel or Isabel. Isabelle only if you are French, otherwise it’s downmarket.

SeaWitchly · 22/11/2019 22:34

Isobel or Isabel.

fleariddenmoggie · 22/11/2019 22:34

Isabelle

Phoebesgift · 22/11/2019 22:50

I prefer and chose Isabel. Middle name.

FizzyGreenWater · 23/11/2019 10:47

Isobel seems so much more dignified.

Isabel is a bit wetter but ok.

Isabelle - silly, fussy, overused.

Lilyannarose · 23/11/2019 12:02

I prefer Isabelle with Belle as a nn.
Ultimately though I much prefer Isabella as I tend to like names ending in "a".

helpiamstressedbuthey · 23/11/2019 12:23

Isabelle- for me it is the most beautiful spelling.

1Bobbinwinder · 23/11/2019 12:25

Isobel. Classy

pinkmummy1 · 23/11/2019 12:26

I have an Isabelle. It took ages for me to decide on spelling. Depends on how you want to pronounce the name.

SlightlyBonkersQFA · 23/11/2019 12:27

I prefer Isobel. Isabelle has too many letters that don't add anything. Isabel is ok too but the scottish version just wins out. It seems more solid.

HoppingPavlova · 23/11/2019 12:28

Isobel

SlightlyBonkersQFA · 23/11/2019 12:30

@HavelockVetinari wow you know your stuff. Do you know why a t would be put before the Isibéal. I knew a Isibéal and everybody seemed to put a t sound in before her name, like tishbale was what I HEARD. But I saw it written down and there was no t, but I heard a t when it was SAID! Confusing.

MrsBertBibby · 23/11/2019 12:32

Isobel.

MikeUniformMike · 23/11/2019 13:06

Isabel

MollyHuaCha · 23/11/2019 13:10

Isabel

I like Isabella even more.

KatyaK · 23/11/2019 13:12

I've always preferred the Isobel spelling

PsychosonicCindy · 23/11/2019 13:16

Isobel. My dd3 middle name!

Redlocks28 · 23/11/2019 13:16

There are 15 girls with this name at my infant school this year!

Isobel
Isabel
Isabelle
Isobelle

That’s not counting any of the ones called Isabella!

I’d say the first spelling is the most common.

I used to really love this name but honestly I would steer clear now-it’s a nightmare in the Staffroom and assembly, knowing who people are referring to! Ok when they’re names on a page and you can see the spelling, but talking about them gets so confusing. They have become curly Isobel, Isobel sister of X, Isobel T, little Isabel, Isobel in Magpies class, Isobel who goes home for lunch etc

Cookit · 23/11/2019 14:35

Oh Isobel a million times over.

Isabel as a second choice and Isabelle lastly.

Isobel is a traditional spelling and so much less fussy than Isabelle. Just like Annabel over Annabelle any day.

diddlediddle · 23/11/2019 22:26

Don't do it, there are one squillion of them.

However if you must Isobel is by far the nicest. As pps have said it is dignified and classic.

The other options are sugary and twee beyond belief. Isabelle is just dreadful.

Palavah · 23/11/2019 22:30
