Plum’s sister!

Help please! We chose a very unusual name for our first daughter (Plum Elizabeth) and now we’re stuck on what to name her sister. Our current list feels a bit pedestrian in comparison, does it matter?

We like:

Alice
Flora
Gaia
Cecily
Beatrix
Sylvie
Merryn
Iris (actually, I’ve always loved Isis, but it’s obviously unusable now)

OP posts:

Posy
Luna
Betsy
Cleo
Opal
Nell

What about Wren? I met a lovely little Wren at baby group.

You need to give your next child a similarly weird name so that the sibling rivalry doesn't go stratospheric. You might as well have called her pudding.

Bowerbird5 · 17/11/2019 20:44

I know a little girl called Beatrix. The girls all wear lovely long Laura Ashley type dresses and have long hair and alice bands. Beatrix's hair is slightly wavy too. They are such a lovely family. They have moved so we rarely see them now.

Have you seen the story Little Plum? I had it as a child and loved that book. My sisters had it so I don't know where it is now. If you don't have it do try and get a copy for her.

Sorrel sounds good. Willow? Eilidh, Freya, Kenzie?

elliejjtiny · 17/11/2019 20:46

I remember reading a book about 2 sisters called Nancy and Plum (I think plum was short for pamela).

FizzyGreenWater · 17/11/2019 20:46

Who was the person who was desperate to name her DD Persimmon but the DH said no?

RickOShay · 17/11/2019 20:48

Meriel is lovely I think.

HaveIgoneMad · 17/11/2019 21:07

My eldest daughter has a very common but very lovely name, my youngest has a very, very unusual but equally lovely in my opinion name. I don't think it matters too much and the names still flow pretty well when said together.

HaveIgoneMad · 17/11/2019 21:10

I do like the name sorrel though:)

PollyShelby · 17/11/2019 21:14

Tuppence or Constance

KnickerBockerAndrew · 17/11/2019 21:15

Agree with PP who says you have to give your next child an equally unusual name- My parents gave one of us a weird name and the other a normal name and it is kind of indicative of the way they felt about/treated us. I still think about it now...

Tinty · 17/11/2019 21:16

Astrid
Quintina or
Seranee

I really like Gaia, it looks beautiful but simplistic and is a gorgeous unusual but heard of name. It really is lovely and I've never met one

I second Posy! Plum and Posy sounds great.

MrsSiriusBlack1 · 17/11/2019 21:20

Plum? Hmm

ElvenMoonwings · 17/11/2019 21:22

Sorrel really does have the same kind of vibe.

Star? Pomona, Hero, Ambrosia, Calypso?
